se electronics microphones

ive been told by a local music shop that the model SE1 made by se electronics are really good all round condensers, especially good for overheads on a drum kit. what are your opinions? cheers,

I spoke with those guys at Summer NAMM and was pretty impressed. I posted here about it, so do a search. I haven't tried them, but they have some type of "try before you buy" program, so I'd definitely take advantage of that if I were you.
 
They've been really trying to position themselves as more upscale than their direct competitors (Rode, Studio Projects, ADK) and while I think their nice microphones are NICE (I REALLY like the ICIS and the Z5600 on my particular voice), they really price themselves a little high with their high-end offerings. They're definitely worth looking at, and they have a loaner program for you to try out in your studio for about a week, no charge.
 
Well, some of the ADK's are a little over-priced too, IMHO.

But since SE supposedly has their own larger-than-average diaphragm capsule, they have become a bit more unique than the others. Whether or not that constitutes a higher price remains to be seen... er... heard.
