SD memory cards

I'm about to buy a new 8 track and was just wondering as to which SD memory cards are the best buy?


Also could someone explain to me (please ) the amount of time (ie minutes) to record on each memory card? Will I need any other software once I buy my card?

Hey, Jonny. The amount of time on a card will depend on quality. Most digital recorders will let you record at lesser quality if you want. I have a Boss BR-532, and can get quite a bit of time on a 128 meg card. I think I got about an hour at highest quality with mine. This also means, if you use all 8 tracks, your time is spread over all them. Mine will do 32 virtual tracks, and I could usually get 8 or 10 tracks recorded before it was full. There should be some documentation that tells you what the specs are for the machine you are buying.

As far as software, mine came with none, so I bought software to mix with. You will probably have to do the same, unless it is one that you can do good mixing within. Mine is a basic recorder, for putting ideas down with. Not much for effects, that work very well. Some other portastudios work better. Go to the MP3 mixing clinic, and look for a thread from RAMI. He just did a tune in his studio, and I'm not sure exactly what he did, but you could listen, and ask him some specifics if you want. I know he just bought a new Tascam.

How high of a quality can you get using only 128 megs over an hours time on 8 tracks? What am I missing here? Aren't mixes around 500 megs for 8 tracks?
