I couldve sworn(not 100 percent sure) but i think for underoaths last cd, the screamer used an sm57...it looked like that in the video of them making their album.

i actually screamed into my perception 200 (large diaphragm condenser) through a vtb-1 and then into a basspodxt for compression and minor effects. the whole thing came out sounding decent, i think. even in the mixing forum no one criticized the vocals (just everything else, understandably). check out the sound at

it's the 2nd song, "contempt," and if you have the patience to wait through my 2+ minute intro, you'll hear what i did with this odd vocal setup...

i think screaming is like a distorted guitar amp which is why the same mics seem to work well for both

little richard was kind of a screamer and ive always thought he had the prototypical rock voice. very controlled breakup and cuts through the mix.

So instead of buying a better (or should I say, better-suited) mic for screaming and then record it yourself, you should just stick with whatcha got and go with one of those Little Richards, eh?

i guess so... when i lived in california i bought a mic for 20 bucks. it was a "yu brothers" mic made in taiwan. it was real lightweight and had fixed 1/4" cable. i made some recordings with it that came out sweet as cotton candy. i lost it somewhere and i bought an sm58 that i hated. i dont think there was anything wrong with it i just missed my yu brothers mic and that sweet sound.
