anyway what a few people have said already is the truth.... get that zen of screaming DVD by melissa cross. she is one of the only vocal coaches that actually teaches proper screaming technique. and she works with a bunch of popular signed acts such as:

Have you seen AWK live? He sucks. He can't scream. He does a halfassed gutteral growl thing that sounds fine on record but shitty live. Besides, when screaming is all you do, it sucks. I aint saying anyone should be a classically trained vocalist, cuz that sucks too. But screaming being your only gimmick is fucking stupid and anyone that gets off on that shit is a musical moron.
I haven't seen the rest of your list live, so I can't really comment. Screaming on tape is not impressive. It's too easy to fudge that shit on a recording. I'm gonna assume that everyone sucks until I hear it done well live.

Screaming Vocals
This is my screaming... I taught myself and I didn't need melissa cross to do it. there are some parts that are layered in there for effect, but the verses are all pretty much a single track with no clipping/peaking/distortion from the recording and no effects or EQ added.
I used two mics... a sennheiser dynamic and Samson C01 Condenser at the same time... screaming directly into the sennheiser with the Samson off to the right pointing towards me.
I can provide the raw tracks if you want.
In all honesty if you want a good screaming voice it just takes lots of practice. It's not going to happen right away, but push from the diaphragm hard and slightly tense up your throat. Work on one range at a time until you feel like you can bring it up on command.... eventually the muscles in your throat will develop enough to where you can slur around your screams like Phil Labonte or Anders from In Flames... as far as adding tone to your screams, it takes awhile to develop that balance between both sets of vocal chords.
Chad Gray from mudvayne is a good example of that. He has superb control over his screams... unfortunately he's plagued by horrible breathing during live shows.
but practice with the music turned down low so you can really hear yourself. I used to scream along to As I Lay Dying's "An Ocean Between Us", Mudvayne's "L.D. 50", Lamb of God's "Ashes of The Wake" and In Flames' "Come Clarity"
those 4 albums cover a wide range of screaming. Your own voice will always come through no matter what, so what you scream will always be you... but you can train yourself to match other screamers intonation.
last but not least, endurance is the hardest part. your throat needs to be resilient and with practice your will develop a thick mucus in your throat...
never strain yourself to sustain a scream by tightening your throat either, this is how people blow out their vocal chords. You narrow the passage of airflow and the force of that on your vocal chords is hell.
There is a proper way to scream so that you will never kill your voice. Just look at the bands who tour all year long and still scream consistently on every album... As I Lay Dying is a great example. The original singer from KSE did blow out his vocal chords but he came back and he's still screaming with a different band. Control your breathing and never tense up too much.
anyone can scream, just play around with your voice and you'll find what works.

Actually, it's not a gimmick it's a part of the sound. It's a percussive and emotional part of the music. I actually don't like when bands mix screaming and singing in there their music. It kills the atmosphere for me. ALSO, I don't believe growling belongs in black metal, and I don't believe screaming belongs in death metal. I'm also a music snob. AND, I don't believe hardcore/screamo belong in my CD fucking player. Bunch of virgins...

The good ones don't screw up their voices. Mike Patton is a friggin' genius and he's still going strong. Though he doesn't go all Lamb Of God all the time, either, so that could have something to do with it.

Theres the whole mega-guide I wrote and compiled for singing with rasp and distortion.
If you can do that screamings only a step a way. I could probably teach someone to growl in 30 minutes. Growlings easy though, the challenge with screaming comes from getting a good tone from mids and highs.
I do false chord though, so it's not as relevant for metalcore kinda stuff. Better for death/SYL/Dimmu-ness.

The basic part of screaming comes down to whether you want to scream fry or falsechord. The crackly sound is pretty all around; you can make it work on anything that requires screaming but at the same time it sounds fine for lighter stuff. It doesn't take nearly the toll on your throat.
Falsechord on the other hand sounds a little too 'brutal' for alot of metalcore kinda stuff. Think Strapping Young Lad, Meshuggah, Dimmu, Arch Enemy, etc. Thats all false chord. Falsechord is basically getting the balance right of fucking up your throat but not so much as that you loose your voice and can't sing (Your singing voice wears out far before you lose your ability to scream)

I know Zen of Screaming was mentioned in this thread and I have to say, that dvd is very little instruction and a lot of dudes in bands saying how much she (Melissa Cross) helped them get better at screaming. I torrented it and I still felt ripped off. Anyway, I'm decent enough at screaming and I pretty much just yell loudly and kind of shape the sound. I dunno. You just gotta be really loud and play around with it. I've gotten to the point that unless I push way too hard at shows, I can still talk fine and don't suffer any negative consequences.
On a side note, screamo is bands like Saetia, Pianos Become the Teeth, and I Would Set Myself On Fire For You (this forum won't let me post links), not Lamb of God or whatever.

First off, screamo may be tough to get into (I still havent) but music with screams in it (the right fit) are some of the most badass songs I have ever heard.
The whole way to get good at screams is to totally reshape your thinking of screaming. Get yourself a mic and speakers to sing out of and mess with your velocity and projection. You will master it much quicker than the geniuses who just scream as loud as they can.

there is absolutely no right way to scream without doing damage to your vocals in the long run. ive taken singing lessons from dave stroud, guy babusek, seth riggs, AND Melissa Cross which founded zen of screaming and they all say the same thing. stay away from it as much as possible if you can
