thats casue hes a pussy.

John Brannon did for most of the 80's. And lived to tell the story.

And screaming vocals do suck. Those screamo albums were the most boring shit i ever touched....

Does that even the playing field for you. Make it feel more like home. Give you the sense of counter culture you were looking for..... :D

:laughings: :laughings: :laughings: :laughings:

All of them? An entire genre of music? Excellent!

Before getting bent out of shape...

I was referring to the screamo albums i recorded.

And most of the stuff i had to sit through in my day. Yea. Boring.

You gotta watch out for shamwowlious. He likes to ask questions and then bitch and argue with the answers. :laughings:

He's seemingly a nice fella though. He just takes himself and his music a little too seriously. :D

Calm down, chammy. ;)

Brian Johnson's screams were actually just above a whisper.

There's two main styles of screaming.
There's false chord, and there's fry scream.

The fry scream is harder to learn, imo. You have to use your diaphragm just like any other type of singing\vocals, but start off practicing by making that "The Grudge" sound. Have you ever seen that movie? The little scary character that makes that creeking noise with her voice, lol.

You start with that, and then bring air up from your diaphragm and it creates that distorted scream that you'd like to do, :] takes practice. it'll start off as a whisper at first because you're just starting, but to work on volume, put a pencil between your top and bottom teeth and try to bring the scream up over the pencil.

This is what i'm trying to do and really struggling with, i guess i'll just keep practising :)

Apologies, didn't mean to appear annoyed or sarcastic. It was tongue in cheek, as was the punk thing!

+I do agree i think theres a bigger shit to good ratio of bands in this genre than any other. Genre seems to create a lot of copycats.

1) Find a singing coach in your area that can teach you how to scream properly (if there IS one in your area).

2) Get the Zen of Screaming. Do it. Do it now.

AAAAAUUUUURRRRRUUUURRRRAAAAGGGHHH !!!

Aah, that hurt my cyberthroat.

screaming is all technique... you use a completely different part of your voice. you do damage when you use your throat.

i learned by doing, never took lessons or figured out a technique by listening to someone telling me what to do.

the way i started out is by singing to music where the lead singers voice "cracks" into a slight scream every now and again.

then i started signing to avenged sevenfold and tried to figure out the grit he got in his voice and figured that out.

then went for it and started singing along to the used's bert mccracken and can keep up with him.

the only difficulty i have is maintaining a high range whilst im screaming for that particular singing session.

Im not even close to saying "sing like other people"... im saying sing to the sound your trying to develop. cant learn metal guitar by playing funk.

take baby steps, a room wasnt built in a day. or else you will hurt yourself.

there were times where i seriously hurt my throat.... but im now happy with my results and the doc says my throats fine.

*scream in moderation* if you want to scream like atreyu then thats a completely differnt method... hardlyscreaming... its dry screaming and has a very low output volume. (if ou notice... when he sings he holds the mic far away... when he screams he puts the mic on his mouth... means his singing is louder than his screaming.)

all you guys who don't like screaming are a bunch a pussies anyway lol :D

go listen to some coldplay or john denver peter puffers....

anyway what a few people have said already is the truth.... get that zen of screaming DVD by melissa cross. she is one of the only vocal coaches that actually teaches proper screaming technique. and she works with a bunch of popular signed acts such as:

Andrew W.K., Lamb of God's Randy Blythe, Shadows Fall's Brian Fair, Every Time I Die's Keith Buckley, God Forbid's Byron Davis, and Melissa Auf der Maur, Spencer Chamberlain from Underoath, Trevor Phipps from Unearth, Geoff Rickly from Thursday, Philip Labonte from All That Remains, Mark Hunter from Chimaira, Robert Meadows from A Life Once Lost, Lou Koller from Sick of It All, Byron Davis from God Forbid, and Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy.

What he/she said ^
This is the bible of heavy music vocal instruction.
The kinda thing where some vocalists will keep it a secret, because it works so well. You'll learn to scream from your stomach, and save extra air.
I can't stress enough, how much this is needed for any vocalist lookin' to expand their voice in hardcore / metal types of music.
