scratch tracks?

If I go into a studio and record a band, I would first lay down the drums, right? If this is true how and when do I put the scratch tracks in?

You could do the scratch tracks first to a click track or do them at the same time as the drummer plays.

tex has the way that i like the best...it gets everyone in there at the same time and band eye contact for stops and slow parts and build ups helps. in studios everything is recorded on seperate tracks so at the end you can just replace out each one of the scratch tracks with the real track
