Tascammer
My lucky day..old bandmate from first band when I was 15 (now im 52) sent me his Fostex A-80 from L.A. over the weekend... he used UPS store so I should be in good shape...I only have to pay shipping...

Ive been searching for an 8 track reel to reel to compliment my M-35 tascam mixer and I cant wait to start snakin cables....looks pretty basic but I hope he is sending the manual as well......

Im very happy because Im getting burned out on my Korg D-888 I use and have mainly been using my tascam 424mkIII to reenergize my art!!! Im not to hip on midi use, is there a way to sync these two machines together..?..cant wait to start trackin my drums on tape....now if I can only score a sixteen track!!

thanks ..... any tips before I power it up?

clevo..... so now my capabilities include the following (as far as tracking and mixing, not going to go wacko and list my guitar picks and drum sticks)

Korg D-888 ( digi 8 track)
Fostex A-80 ( r2r 8 track)
tascam 424 mkIII (portastudio 4 track)
teac A2300 sx 2 track r2r
tascam M-35 mixer
alesis masterlink for CD mixdown
and of course my first entrance to home recording my old reliable tascam Porta 02 mkII 4 track....i still use this more than anything else!! its my musical etch a sketch!!

thanks again...this is my first Fostex

A-80

Its an A-80...........Ive been scouring the net all day getting tidbits of info...really dig the looks of it...

hopefully it makes the trip without incident...

I hope it survives the trip. Before putting a good reel of tape on it I would clean and demag the heads and things just in case it had old sticky tape on it. Good luck.

is it one like this?-(not mine, stock photo off the 'net)
FostexA80_Studio080904_1024_2557.JPG

very nice!

demag ?

You know I have a demagnatizer wand, but it looks like the tip might be gone....how do i tell if its working? I guess I could see if it would erase a tape? If it was working it should erase a tape, no?

yea Cjacek, I know I am afraid of the shipping...those UPS stores used to be Mail Boxes, Etc., and when I was in the freight business I used to handle most of their stores in the Cleve area....never to impressed with their "packing" jobs..

I used to use a local guy who did crating and that was the way these types of things should move....wooden crates...none of this cardboard bubble wrap crap...Its worth the dice roll...just hope I dont end up with a driver who has to much attitude and coffee...

yup, thats the one, in fact thats the same pic he sent me....hope its as clean as that one..
