ok... what is that riff you do on and after "they don't have a chance " I can't figure it out it starts with something diminished and then there are two "mumbled" frases/chords that I can't seem to figure out ... maybe I should of PMed you ... actualy I just wanted to see if I can sing that high ... :D and got into it ...

Fed - I PM'd you

I love your voice. Very sweet tone, nice pitching. Aaah, lovely. ;)

Very nice harmonies too.

The guitar sounds a tiny bit harsh (especially on the D string) and the frequencies clash a bit with the vocal. Maybe cut some high mids on the guitar? Or even move the guitar back a wee bit from the mic and let in a tiny bit more "room" ambience?

I'd also do a doubled acoustic track and hard-pan them - give the vocal some room. Of course, I do that on everything, so it might just be me! ;)

The above comes with the usual safety warning - I'm a rank amateur and am a recording bear of very little brain.

Cheers

Hi TripleM,

When I listened to this tune yesterday, I instinctively grab my keyboard and joined in with some neat octave strings. It sounded a bit corny, but it was great fun :) .

It's a great tune. Nice melody and a very passionate vocal. I've listened to some of your other stuff before and I really appreciate your expressive and personal voice.
I think I remember you being associated with REM in an earlier thread. Personally, I'm reminded more of Mike Mills than of the actual sound of REM. Its not as pronounced in this song, though.

I'm not to crazy about the harmony break (the dim and maj7 ?? chords), these are nice chords but I don't think they fit in a lullaby like this. But that's just my personal taste.

All in all a very, very nice tune.

Really,really nice.
I think it's very cool to do this for your daughters.
They must really love their Dad!:D

I especially liked the high vocal/harmony parts.
Really cuts to the heart.:)
Who's the sweetie saying goodnight?

If I might offer some amature suggestions, seems like the high vocal/harmony part is so strong,it pales the solo vocal a little.
If it was me,I would double the solo part to thicken it out some.
Just a thought, take it for what it's worth.:)

I really think this is a good song,a very good subject, writing and melody!

Enjoyed it very much,thanks.

Pete

alibish - thank you for the listen and thoughts. I love double tracked guitar and vocal parts. I didn't double the guit here for a couple of reasons. One is I wanted to keep this sounding like a daddy singing to his little girl - no big production stuff. The other is with all the picking, it would take me 100 years to get two identical tracks :) Thanks again.

Eric O. - I wish I could have heard the key part. You couldn't have gotten any more corny than me :D. Mike Mills - good catch. You're right - there is a certain similarity in tonal qualities about our voices.

Pete - thank you as well. I retracked the lead vocals. They're a bit smoother now. Pitch issues are gone (I think). And they're more forward in the mix. There may be a word or two that are still covered up. But not as bad as before. I re-posted it if you want another listen. The little cutie is my daughter Allison.

Fed - if you're still paying attention to this thread, I pm'd you with the chord stuff you wanted.

Thanks all.

thats a very sweet song....good recording of it also......

i have a 5 year old daughter so this brought a little tear to the eye....maybe ill write a song for her....

Sounds much better,I really like this song!

I meant to ask you,how did you record the guitar, sounds very nice.

The vocal track sounds good,I just think you have it a tad too loud.
It's such a great song,I wouldn't feel right not saying anything.
Mabey it's because I'm listening on a computer.

Hope I don't offend,JMHOP.:)

Thank you Gidge. Feels good getting a compliment from a pro.

muze - the guitar was recorded with an SM57 positioned at the 12th fret about 3-4 in. away and at about a 30 degree angle. I got that tip from TexRoadKill. Vox are too loud now? Geez, I can't get them just right. Thanks for your attention to detail and time.

just listened to the remix.. excellent.

BY FAR, my favorite of yours..

Hey 3M,
How do you critique a song that a guy writes for his little girl man? This is very nice. ....nice melody and guits. ....just listening makes me wanna take a nice nappy with a smile on my face Nice stuff for an abviously happy little girl

couldn't have said it better myself

:D

thanks for sharing this one man.

peace

hey tripleH... errrr.. tripleM... ;) loved the re-mix! Much better. I'm gonna learn this one for my baby step daughters. good job!

Yeah this is a great little diddy TripleM, I needed this when i used to try and sing my daughters to sleep..they alway's cried though when i sang to them...still do:eek: . Good darn recording/singing/and the harmonies were outstanding. Thanks David

Sam the man... a second thanks for a second listen.

fenderlickin Rick... - I appreciate the time and thoughts. I hadn't seen you in a while. Good to hear from you.

JR#97 - thank you for your second review as well. And I hope you post your own daughter song. I'd love to hear it.

David - glad you liked it. Whenever my two year old hears it (particularly the 2nd verse) she says, "No monsters. Right daddy?" I keep telling her there are no such thing as monsters. Takes a while to sink in.

BTW - this will probably be the last time I bump this thread (trying to be polite). So I may miss a thank you or two...

T'was cute, MMM. Some falsetto there... actually works well. Nice melody. Unusual change around 1:55... sounds like your best recording and mix to date. Good job, all around :) (someday, I'll have kids too :( ;))

really sincere sound.. like your sittin in a chair by the bed. Has lots of possibilities, I was almost hearing soft harmony on the chorus. yep, that could be a real nice production.Guitar is nice and clean. That 57 caught it all nicely, a little twangy on the little e string.

Cheers :)
