Since I never used them and heard many a negative reviews of them not just from here but other audio forums,would the NS10's be considered the (shudder)
3630 of monitors or worse?

Hey Q.... not quite...
...a close second, I'd say... first goes to Auratones, then come NS-10s.....
(Of course, not everyone will agree!!!!!!!!!!! Some would say the Auratones are BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

That's a little harsh, be very close. People (no offence to all who use them) claim to be alot more than they are. When they were first introduced them, yamaha would give them to studios free of charge. So, many studio started using them and alot of todays enginers "grew up" listening to them. Plus, alot of newbies see in a large majority of recording mags, big shots with the white coned, ns10's. That led to many many many, (did I mention many?) sales from people starting out, who have never heard them. In my opinion it was a great marketing plan, to bad the monitors suck. The only thing "I" have found them acceptable for is punching in. They are on the console, mid rangy as hell, and the music seems to be right in your face. Whew.... I'm tired, that was alot about the ns10's.

I can only assume from your comment Shailat that you have never used them side by side, or possibly just have never used Events. Not only did I never go back to Nasties after hearing the Events, but many of my peers didn't either. Just a night and day difference.
But, use what pleases you friend. I will let your snideness slide as an act of good faith in future agreeances.

They are nice monitors for the home recorder but a pro like you ?!?!?.

Not really. In many pro studios you will find them using the NS 10's. The only difference is that lately studios are using them as a second reference and not the first choice. I have yet to see a 3630 in a pro studio that uses the compressor. As a gate I have seen but it's rare.

It seems that Bruce has a fetish with these ns10's
(I hear he sleeps with a pair in bed).
and I couldn't resist to jab him in the ribs.
It seems to be a fad to put them down these days.
I think it's important to know that many people use them with good results.
But I'm sure people are tiered of hearing about the NS10 good or bad thread.

Actually, Nasties make a decent "second" reference, right beside my Events in the studio. When I need to actually place the midrange, what else could possibly make it honk like them?
