Saving to external hard drive

When I try to start a new session and save it to my external drive, I get the message "pro tools does not support unmapped network volumes." I read that the mode should be changed from transfer to record, but I don't know how to do this. Can anyone help?

Actually, you might just try and make your external drive, a mapped drive.
