Sampling Sequencers... MPC vs Yamaha RS 7000

I have been making beats on my Roland JX-305 keyboard with built in sequencer for about 2 years, no other equipment. I am looking to get something for sampling soon (probly in about a month).

I went into a store to look at MPC 2000XL, and the salesman didnt know much about it. He was thinking of getting one himself, but got the Yamaha RS-7000 instead, so he showed me a few things on it, I messed around, made a beat on it, I was impressed with the machine. For the same price as the MPC, you get a lot more- sound effects as well as the sound patches from the Motif. This piece sells for $1400 new in the store, I've seen it go for about $1000 on ebay... a fully loaded MPC XL I've seen sell in the $1500 range. And that module filter for the MP is like $500...

Many people I've talked to, say the MPC is the only way to go for hip hop and R&B, and say the RS is inferior. I've yet to see for myself what the MPC myself can do, every store I've been to has just told me things I already know about it... how do the 2 match up to each other?

Also, how much better/different is the MPC 3000 than the 2XL? I know its older and has less memory and capacity, some say that its sound cant be matched... can anyone elaborate? Is it worth the extra $? One is on ebay right now for a buy-it-now price of $2000... I know some such as Dre, Large Pro, Beatminerz use the 3 a lot.

Any help'd be much appreciated.
 
it blatantly kicks ass!! the sounds are much bettah.. and you got more memory and better effects on the sampler... even a bleeding compressor... it's also an advanced rm1x, which is my favorite sequencer...

That salesman must have just got the job, even then he would know SOMETHING about the mpc2000xl.

Ok, regarding the 3000 and 2000XL, they have the same memory capacity, let me first correct you on that. They both ship with 2MB standard and can be expanded with 32MB RAM. I would have to agree that it's sound probably can't be matched. All the later mpc models have a thinner sound quality that noone seems to be able to explain, hopefully this will change with the new MPC 4000. I had a 2000 before and preferred an ASR-X to that. But I eventually got the 3000, and I've been using that for a couple of years now, to me it was well worth the price.

Oh, and about the RS7000, I tried Chriss I really did try but it doesn't hit me at ALL. The soundset reminds me of Yamaha's older stuff and I wouldn't touch that with a 50 foot pole. The Motif, now there's something I GOTTA HAVE. And please don't try to tell me "it's the same soundset" because it's not. They sound nothing alike.
 
I never worked with the RS, but I have the earlier model which is the su 700, and I have worked with the MP on various occasions. I would say if you are looking for a good sampler go for the MP...the sound module on the RS is nothing more than the RM1X sound mod, and that has sounds that you might not use, especially for hip hop, because they sound to bright and pop-like.plus they aren't very realistic either, but the sequencer is pretty good, so there are some tradeoffs, but I don't really think that they're worth it.
 
hehe laj, i love yamahas older stuff.. prolly why i like the rs7000 and the rm1x so much... they're also fatter than other rom synths out there...
