sampling rate problem?

Hi,

Here's the problem. I am trying to record a guitar via the following chain:

guitar : j-station : s/pdif out (24 bit 44.1 kHz) : M-audio Dio 2448 s/pdif in : Cool Edit Pro set to 32 bit (float), 44.1 kHz.

Now, everything records fine, but upon playback, the whole track is 1/2 step higher than what I played. To me, this sounds like a sampling rate mismatch. Thing is, I'm not sure what's at fault here. I haven't experimented yet, but I am posting to sort of troubleshoot before I start jacking around with settings.

The J-station s/pdif out cannot be changed. It's 24/44.1, period.

I didn't think choosing the 32 bit depth option within CEP would throw off the pitch, but if someone knows otherwise, let me know. I thought the sampling rates were what had to match. I did select 44.1 in CEP, so that leaves the soundcard.

Unfortunately, as anyone who has an m-audio 2448 can tell you, the interface window is extremely lacking in the ability to change settings. The only thing that would seem to help is the "analyze" button, which analyzes the incoming digital signal and synchs to it (I guess). That will be the first thing I try, but I have a funny feeling that it isn't going to work. Beyond that, I'm not really sure what to do.

I am open to suggestions. Thanks.

Try recording into the soundcard from the analog outputs of the j-station...if it still shifts the pitch, then the card is probably your culprit.

Yea see if the analog ins work fine. I don't know CEP but can you choose what your clock source is? You would want to choose the s/pdif in. There's got to be a way to change the sample rate in the card's control panel.
