Sample Rate ?

Hi

I recorded a song with a sample rate of 88.200 . When I try to export (bounce) the song with logic 9 to (mp3) so I get a message saying : tHE DESTINATION FORMAT DOES NOT SUPPORT SAMPLE RATES ABOVE 48KHZ
my only option is to convert it to 48 so does it even worth recording the rest of my songs at 88.200 because at the end I bounce the song with mp3 and have to convert it . Can you covert a song using WAVE format with Logic 9 ?

Yeah, that's pretty much useless to use 88.2. A lot of people use 44.1
 
DONT convert it to 48 then mp3 it.
You will be making 2 conversions since it still has to go down to 16bit/44.1k to be an mp3.
You only want to change it ONCE.

Convert it directly from 88.2 down to 16bit/44.1k and THEN mp3 it.
 
Dont even bother recording at sample rates higher than 48k. It's a huge waste of disk space, and you dont really gain anything useful. Higher sample rates would get your the ability to record higher freq. sounds, but the human ear doesn't hear above 20k anyway, which is totally attainable with 44.1k. I've said it before - >48k sample rates are only practical if you're recording music for dogs. (bump up that 30k! grrrr.. :D )
 
Actually there are 2 reasons to use 48k:

Video (standard rate for syncing to video is 16bit/48k)

ADATs, SBLives and any other hardware that uses 48k natively.

Seriously, unless you are doing classical music with huge dynamic range, lock your system down on 24bit/44.1k and forgetaboutit.......
 
The sample rate doesn't have anything to do with dynamic range, only frequency content. The number of bits is what gives you more dynamic range.

44.1k for CD, 48k for video.

If you are just making mp3's, there is really no point in even recording at 44.1k since most mp3 formats get rid of everything above 11k. So, 96k is just huge overkill.
 
I dont have a problem with 48k, I know it's used all over the place. But 88.2k and 96k, I cant understand why they even exist in the first place.. Literally, only dogs can hear the freq's 88.2k/96k can record, that 44.1k/48k can't.
