Hey I'm new here, I just went and bought a bass cab to play my Gibson SG through because it sounded really good. The bass cab has a distortion button and a 6 string built in tuner. I'm playing it through a regular Marshall 4X12. Is this going to ruin my cab? I hope not, the guitar shop a-hole said it should be fine.

Sorry here's the info...

The Head is a Crate BT220H (200w) bass head
The Cab is a Marshall 140w R.M.S. 4X12

It sounds really good, the bass head has built in distortion and i've messed with the knobs to get a nice thick tone out of it. I don't here any popping or fuzziness, but just don't want it to blow my cab. Any thoughts?

mines the other way around.

bass in guitar amp out a bass cab

cool...

i'm just hoping the setup i'm using doesn't massacre my Marshall Cab, that bastard wasn't cheap.

 fellas.....I don't want to offend anyone - but I DO want to make sure you both understand what you are doing. Just becuase something is different doesn't mean it's good.

If you plug a guitar into a bass head, into guitar cabinet you GOTTA be careful how much low end and lower mids you put into your cabinet. Just a bunch of low end won't give you a better sound but it CAN damage your speakers. You need to work on developing TONE and finding your guitars voice. Every instrument, combined with your playing, has its own distinct voice. It will sound 1000x better if you develop your ear and find that voice instead of using bass gear to fabricate some sound you like for now.

If you plug a guitar into a guitar head, into a bass cab, you have another recipe for disaster. Bass cabs are NOT going to give you that big heavy crunch. Bass cabs are tuned WAAAAAYYYY differently and just do not respond really well to the frequencies of a guitar. I don't think you will hurt tha bass cab (you might..I dunno) but I do know that the same idea about taking the time you need to find your instuments voice applies in this case as well.

Of course everyone has different ideas about what sounds good, and please don't take what I had to say as insulting.....I didn't mean it that way. You very well my really like the sounds you are getting. I just wanted to say that there are specific tool for specific applications......for specific REASONS.

I couldn't agree more...... with the above poster......

If you send too much low end to your marshall cab you can kiss thoose speakers goodbye.

I don't mean to put you down or anything like that.

If you really want more low end get one of dimebag darrells signature cabs (they're made by randall) it's 2 15"s but it's guitar safe..... Just my two cents.

Thanks

Thanks guys, I appreciate the notes. Basically what I did is turn the highs up and the lows almost to "0" on the bass head. I just like the way it sounds, I do have a fender rockpro 1000 tube head for guitars, but for some reason this bass head sounds better to me. I figured since it was cheap ($300) and only 200w that it probably won't damage my Marshall cab. But i don't know much about this stuff. I've played hardcore punk rock my whole life and am delving into a little death metal now.
