This is my first post. This song was done as a test... After you talk about the mix, maybe someone who knows sonar could tell my why i can't get my midi to work properly and i have to use audio tracks for my synth. Just a thought. Thanks.

I'm not sure if I understand this song, but I would say it's a creative way to write a song! I can't say much about the mix, because this kind of song is somehow subjective. You know better what you want. Good mix I can say. Interesting you made it with Sonar, what's your problem with MIDI part?

probably the most contemporary track ive heard so far and totally understandable to me ..youve got something there..production wise its got room for improvement ..but it has a good feeling and plenty of potential ..keep at it dude!!

Thanks: PKF

Thanks for the kind words, about the sonar problem: I used a Yamaha RM1X for the synth sounds... since then I've been messing with some more and newer things... but i have to put it into the computer as audio. For some reason I can't figure out how to get midi to sound through my mixing monitors. I'm probably doing something really dumb... here's my setup.

Yamaha RM1X
Aardvark Q10
Going into the computer and running through sonar.

That's really about all. I can record the midi notes onto sonar. and it plays back through my machine, but i can't get the sound to come through my monitors, it only goes through the Yamaha. I can hear the song going through the yamaha headphones plug.

So that's my problem.

Cheers.

Okay, this routing thing is out of MP3 Clinic topic, but lets give it a try...

Sonar plays MIDI only to tell Yamaha to make the sound. So, in order to hear the sound, indeed you need to route Yamaha's audio out to your monitor. This is where mixer comes to make a good use. If you don't have any mixer, then route Yamaha's audio out to soundcard's line in (usualy using Y cable). I don't have Aardvark, but I guess it must have firmware control panel to enable Line in. It's like when you record the audio from Yamaha to your computer, except you don't actualy have to record 'em.
