Forgive me for my newbieness with amps and such....:o

I've recorded from a number of sources into my E-MU 0404 USB....I've done mics by direct XLR, mics in from mic preamps, bass DI, bass through preamp, in from an old home stereo rig to copy cassette tapes, etc., and have found it very versatile, and easy to use....

...now I've resurrected an old Casio keyboard that I've been using for practicing different rhythms with my bass guitar...I put a y-splitter between the headphone outs on the keyboard, and on my amp, and I've been having fun jamming silently...

So if I wanted to record my practicing...since the keyboard has stereo outs, I can put a stereo rca-1/4" adapter on it, and go into one channel of the 0404.... but is it safe/advisable to go out from the external speaker jack on my practice amp (8 ohm, 15 watt) in to the second channel on the 0404, and will I have any latency issues? Or more importantly, power/level incompatabilty issues?
I don't want to damage any gear....I'd rather ask beforehand, and risk looking silly, than fry any gear out of ignorance....

Neither safe nor advisable. You could fry the input of your 0404.

.Thanks.....:)
I kinda figured so, but thought that maybe I was missing something.....the fact that I was able to take the bass into the DI jack on the mic preamp made me wonder..... and I obviously need to do a lot of remedial reading on mic/level/line level/watts/amps/ohms stuff....:o :D

Do NOT connect a speaker out to any line level input. Very bad things will happen. Headphone levels are definately OK.

Oh man, I don't mean to hijack your thread or anything, but I'm sitting here reading this in a panic .

I have been doing this regularly for the last year and half or so without incident...what risk am I taking?

I have a '70's princeton reverb amp and have run guitars, drum machines and mics through it using a 1/4" jack from the speaker out to the line in on my tascam 688. It adds some color and sometimes I use the amp's reverb as well. I keep the levels moderate, but now I am concerned...::o

I did this many years ago with my PortaStudio. Only channel 2 and 4 work now.

As someone already said . . . it is neither safe, nor advisable.

However, it can be done if you are willing to take the risk. I've done it myself without harm. But that doesn't mean you won't suffer harm!

But a better idea is to get hold of a DI box, go from RCA from Casio into jack in on DI box, then take an XLR out of that.

not the best idea you've ever had... i worked on an old soundcraft console (model4) some years ago for a VAI tour... someone took the output of a svt and ran it down the snake to the console.... it blew the friggin traces off the channel strips !!! then again it was 300wts full tilt boogie!!!

not unless you have a "step down transformer" device. I built one in the early 80's.
