s/pdif?

The converter box doesn't work. Strangely, the M-Audio card locks to the S/PDIF from the coaxial jack on my TV set with no problem. Fostex claims the MR-8 will likewise lock to any digital recorder's TOSLINK S/PDIF. So why wouldn't the M-Audio card naturally support the same format as any recorder?
