Really nice one you got here. Really dances and pushes. Reminds me of early Fleetwood Mac in places until that guitar comes in - very unique style of playing and sound you have on it.

I like the pause around 2.20 too - nice arranging. Plus that change that comes at 3.10 is magic.

Lovely, lovely tune - good work. I suppose this means I have to admire you now... :D

I don't feel "qualified" to comment, but I will anyway. The bass sound is different from the first version you posted, I think, and it sounds better...doesn't distract from the rest of what you're doing.

It's a very good, slick recording. I like mic's and stuff, but there's not a damned thing wrong with this.

again...thx for the replies and comments.

chrisharris... the bass is different...in that it is playing a different part on this version, but the sound should be just about the same. The last version was just clunky 1/8th notes...this is just clunky!!

sabb...damn!! :D

dobro....wow...thanks for the kind words. I appreciate you listening. thanks dobro..

slucie....good luck in your move. the studio gets set up first...right??;)

sennheiser...cool name... no sorry...no vocals planned

crankster... I was anxious to see if you were going to listen and comment too... you being a master at guitar sound yourself. I felt I kinda "slipped by" with your "politically correct" comments. Thanks ...I really appreciate hearing from you. your stuff makes this look like dog-doo.

What is kinda a 'confirmation' of sorts...it seems for me with this tune is that I CAN do a fair amount of stuff with the headphones..which I did with this tune. As of late, I am just getting hooked on these Sony 7506 headphones...waaay more than my JBL's and Urie's. I find my speakers to be unhyped!!! and dull!!!
...AND..I am still recording at 16 bits...which apparently is slipping by, kinda unnoticed...or maybe it isn't. But the need to upgrade my [dinosaur] Win95, pentium mmx 233 audio computer isn't tugging so hard on my wallet as of late. I have plenty of tracks, and the system suits me much better than any reel to reel ever did in the past... at least I think. You guys are giving me comments MUCH better than I was expecting...and this is a nice supprise.

oh..also...this is nothing special or anything...but just a first for me. On the very last guitar solo, I broke my B string, but kept playing the solo, and kept what I played as the 'keeper' take. You can't really hear where the string broke...it's just during some of that string scraping stuff... But I had never kept anything in which I broke a string. oh well....it was interesting to me:rolleyes:

Damn, the last thing I'd want to do is sugarcoat things. It's just that there's nothing wrong with the song. It's not what I'd listen to, since I'm not into pop. I can just recognise the song is good and has enough stuff to keep it interesting. It's pretty irrelevant to mention that I don't dig the genre, but I guess I could have mentioned that. I like the song in a cheesy kind of way, you know. Like I'd like the theme from "Revenge of the Nerds", or something :D

Hey, I'm glad you got such good results on headphones. Or I'm not sure, since I never listen with speakers. I mix and listen with headphones, so your song MIGHT sound awful on speakers.

Don't feel bad about 16 bits. I've never used 24 bits, and my soundcard doesn't even support recording in 24-bits. I can only do the mixdown in 24-bits, but I don't see the point, since all the sounds would be 16-bits anyway.

Taking extra care to use proper grammear...

Still getting a Crocket & Tubbs feel.

I don't remember that melody line carried by the keys on the first version. I'm talking about during the first minute or so. Nice addition. Cool part, nice tone on it. Being repetitive - terrific guitar playing. The guitar hook is really catchy.

Needs a vocal part. :D Good job.

Well this is way too 80's for me! But you do it really well, and you can't argue with the mix. Everything seems to be where it's supposed to be. Kind of reminds me of Genesis, sort of, I suppose. Would be great in a porn flick, but I'm not sure how Christian that would be! :p :D

All personal tase aside, sounds great!

Mixmkr - Listening on a laptop with laptop speakers. However, even with that limitation this mix sounds super clean. That is quite a feat, man. Nice stuff. Great guitar work, and nice sound. I wish I could get my stuff to sound this good on lap top speakers.

i like the guitar sound. that's all i can really say. sounded perfect to me. very clean. well played.

don't care for the rest but that's just cause the genre doesn't really appeal to me.

very listenable though. i could hear this in a Miami Vice episode, but definitely not a porn backdrop as macle alluded to, um....not that I watch that stuff.

Some extremely tight guitar playing... Very cool synth playing too. Cool solo after 1:30 with some neat effects....my preference would have been less flange, but the stereo delays were nice. I like the "toggled" guitars at 2:40 ish. You're one helluva guitar player man. That stuff around 3:30 is ballsy. Couple high end peaks sorta hurt my ears (monitors are up pretty loud).
Overall, this sounds great man. You've played a major role in my own personal learning process so it's weird "critiquing" your stuff for me.

You should open this with a sample of your dog barking, just for fun. Then name it after him. I'm sure he'd apreciate it. :D

Take it easy mix!

Voxvendor...where are you?? 80's music!!...come on dude!

:D

LOL... I think when I said I like Mutt Lange's sound and Def Leppard, and was influenced by 80's rock, I got the stigma of being an 80's fanatic....

The ironic part is, Most of my favorite bands are all newer than 1996

I grew up in the 80's and am a child of the 80's but, Linkin Park, Blink 182, Creed, Garbage, Treble Charger, No Doubt, NIN, and the usual 90's stuff.. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice, Soundgarden are what I'm REALLY into with a few exceptions..;).....

Anyways.. 'nuff 'bout me.

Your song...

I love it. This is a wonderful original. My favorite part is the chorus, where there are those choir sounding chords....

Are those drums from a Roland XP series synth? They sound familiar.....

Drums are punchy, Mix is good, and there is space... It doesn't sound all mashed together.

I can't find much I don't like about it..

Good Work.

 Just like yours truly. Honestly, 80's music (pop) was crap, and I grew up with it :p There was no honest music for my young ears until I was 24, and Nirvana was upon us.

MMM thanks for using "spelll check" I get the Miami Vice comparision a lot.. But ya know, Jan Hamer has to be one of my favorite drummers and keyboard player. I loved the music on that show...infact still do. My problem is that while it is dated sounding to almost everyone, it is what I like to play and listen to.... oh well.. vocals....not from me buddy!!

macle. the positive comments coming from "mr producer" himself are really great to hear. I was hoping to catch you on this tune. Glad you posted...thanks a lot. Admittedly, I was a little supprised you didn't like "80's-hair-band-music" naw...just kidding. I understand completely. Thanks for the listen and the time to peck out a few words. I need to take more tips on production from you current stuff. I like that approach a lot, and think it can be carried over to all styles of music.

dachay2tnr... whoa..hard name to remember!! That is good to hear it sounded good on the laptop. ...and for letting me know too. thanks

erichenryus ...another tough name to remember..unless it is eric-henry-us Another "no-go" on the genre, but an ok on the mix. that is great to hear. and another Miami vice vote. I'll take it:)

SluiCe.. hope your all settled in now...and the studio is wired. I am amazed that you spoke so highly of the gtr playing. There's nothing so fancy there, imo...actually a bunch of slow melody lines...minimum flash....but I do scrape strings allright though...huh? Ya shoulda seen me in the "hair" days doing that with my flying V and a mic stand as a slide. ...actually...that was probably pretty silly by todays standards...but I could climb a mean PA stack though...that counts...huh? Did I tell you about the time I landed flat on my guitar, busted the whammy cause I thought I was a gymnast too...?

Vox...I was glad you posted. Good ears on the Roland drums. Your the first to ever point that out. btw...I think most of us are ready for another voxvendor song with 10,000 vocals. oh yeah...got a mexi strat just the other day... I know you like yours, and I love mine. ..basically as much as my 15 yr old amer. standard, which has been my main axe for awhile now. I feel a strat collection starting (this is number 3)

chad...I'll just say "hello".... you didn't post a real response [recognizing your first reply earlier in the thread] just now....so...hello!!! be good, and eat your vegetables...;)

mexi strats kick ass! Mine is setup for drop b-flat and it has 11's.. Change that pickup immediately though.. My stock pickup was really weak in mine.. Have you found the bridge pickup to be very noisy? mine was, but maybe you got a good one..

I've heard about 500% improvements on changing out the pups. this one is a strat special with a humbucker in the bridge, and a coil tap. also...the previous owner [actually nicely done] put a 9 volt battery compartment in the back too...but it isn't hooked to anything...must have abandoned the project. I'll probably hook up some 9 volt lights then!!:D

but..I actually bought the guitar to slap my roland gk-2a pickup on...as it is on a gibson L6s, and I didn't want to butcher my other strats. I may replace the pups with some hot buggers, but not for the moment. ..and they are decently quiet...as you asked. The neck is glorious....and of course the whammy too!

!

I know who's gonna have Christmas lights on their guitar this Year.

I had a mexi strat a few years ago, and I put Texas Specials in it. Cheap, but it played and sounded great. Thinking of getting another someday.

And Mix...I had my hair day too. I should post a picture. You could have called me little Stevie Vai!

Like I promised, I'm crawling around again.

Ah, this one is very kind on the ears, to begin with. Its a nice composition. The edge is there but softened, or rounded out really well. Dug that Minimoog sounding solo! Overall, this has a very polished sound. Sounds like you spent a lot of time getting things just right and you did!

I liked the guitars in the beginning, and I liked the solos. I just thought there was too much processing in general on the solos. It would work with a straighter sound--doesn't need the flange and the drenched verb to sound cool. What you played was way cool enough.

I wanted to hear the drums fattened up a tad, but I understand their function here and they are workin' as is. I guess even just a little punch here and there would be cool too. Just a taste thing, I suppose.

Nothing to really complain about. You did a great job on this one. Excellent work. This one is worth studying just to hear how you mixed everything and made it so cohesive.

yeah, eddie.......er, i mean mix,

nice freakin sound!!! listening in can's, and everything seems so nicely balanced!! u certainly back up your name!

thank's man

peace
