Curiosity finally got the best of me and I got a Ruby Reverb tank replacement for my Blues Jr. Replacing it was very easy - just required a stubby screwdriver (a full length one would have been difficult to use without removing the speaker first). Looking at the two, I couldn't see how they'd sound different - the build looked very similar.
Nevertheless, I do like the Ruby one a lot better - it's more a part of the sound of the guitar, rather than a dissonant afterthought, which is what I thought the stock one sounded like. On a given gain setting, it seems to have more reverb (longer tail) - I wasn't really after that, but it's fine - I just turn down some. I've never been into reverb on an amp - this is the first amp I've had that has it, and I've only had it a year or so, but I'll start messing with it more.
