After realizing I've outgrown my 3 year old copy of Cakewalk Home Studio 2 I've begun looking at what I want to purchase to replace it.

My main complaint is the lack of a master buss. I'd like to route multiple tracks to busses and then route those busses to a final output bus. I'd like each bus to have insert point as well, and it appears my current DAW does not offer this.

So knowing that if I stick with a Sonar product, my learning curve won't be as long, I'm looking at Sonar 6 Studio Edition. I'm sure it will give me a lot more functionality than my hold HS2, but I wanted to make sure it will let me interface with the mixer as described above (like an analog 24:8:2 mixer would).

Simple question I'm sure but one I've had little luck getting a definitive answer on . Thanks!

Sonar has had universal bus routing since at least version 3.

You can create as many buses as you want. Route any track to any bus. Route any bus to any other bus. Place a send on any track or any bus.

Should do anything you want.

Dang it Nate! Pull the trigger already! I started with HS5 and played around about a year till I got the nerve (and the money) to buy into Pro Audio. While I was pretty happy then, Sonar came along and everyone started talking about softsynths and looping, and drawing curves. Yes Sonar 6 will allow you just about as many buses as you can handle. You can even start a new bus with a simple drown down menu from the output of each channel. The GUI has changed a lot since about version 2, and you pretty much have to rely on third party wave editing if that's what you're into, but it's still PC.

As much as I have enjoyed the Cakewalk products to date, I can't help but wonder what Bill Gates has in mind with the new Vista. Switching to Mac and Pro-tools is not an option for me at this point. I'd say grab a really nice daw, use XP pro, and a fresh copy of Sonar 4, 5, or 6. You'll be amazed.
