Rough mix, need some advice

I think this is cool!

I am hearing Alan Parsons and Pink Floyd in there! But that's just me. I want to hear vocals on this, get busy!

The only thing maybe bugging me is the shaker (is it a shaker percussion?) sound at times seems too strong but hate to really comment on anything until you get the Vox in.

You don't like the organ?

How ya getting your guitar sound?

Nice sound overall. Why replace the organ? It sounded pretty nice. Kind of dominating, but not to the point of being unfixable. I sort of liked it.

Some sort of scratching sound going on in (I think) the acoustic guit track. Pick noise? Something else? Can't tell.

Pretty big reverb on the drums - particularly the snare and toms. I might shorten the decay(s). That predelay on them is pretty big too. No need to shorten that, but don't go any longer.

Could sound cool with a good melody line and lyrics.

Phyl hi!

I liked this VERY much.
The shaker probably need to come down in the mix.

Just add wicked vocal and you're DONE:)

Thanks guys.

Agree with the comments on the shaker - it's too loud and needs to be eq'ed some; the tone gets on my nerves. I tried recording it with a Oktava MC-12, hated it, tried a Rode NT1, better, still not quite right.

I've asked a former band mate to come in and re-do the organ, I thought my cut had some performance issues, will see what he thinks.

The clean guitar is a Yamaha Silent guitar direct into my Aardvark, going this route does tend to accentuate finger noise. The electric is a Dean Chafin through a Roland GP-100, through a Rocktron cabinet.

I only put reverb on the final mix, but agree it's a tad overbearing, will address this in the final mix.

Seems to be a lot of room in there for a classical type lead...I was playing one just for fun.

I agree about the reverb being a bit too much. I would just turn the return down a bit on it.

I dig the feel of the song but it needs some life in the middle IMO.

Thanks Jake.

I've reserved 4 bars of the outro verse for some classical licks.

I'm really looking forward to getting an acoustic amp for my Yamaha silent classical guitar - playing it direct leaves a lot to be desired.

I think you have something here

As a beginning of a piece it's great! As everyone noticed the shaker is a bit over the top. Glad to here you were planning to add something to the outro since it is very long. The reverb on the drums is a little heavy--but not a lot heavy. I like the air they give the piece.

You have a nice piece here. It always amazes me the quality work I here on this board compared to some of the crap in the CD racks out there in the retail world.

Outstanding start. Great Pink Floyd vibe. Personally, I dig all the space on it with the verbs. I also don't see why you'd want to change the organ. It seems to plug right in the tune to me.
I'd prefer I mic on the acoustic rather than a direct sound but that's a matter of taste.

Fellow SLC'er!! (Layton? Close enough ;))

Acoustic DI'ed? Has that ... um... DI sound :)

Pretty good room sound there. Shakers sound a bit dull-ish. And they're mixed to the center? (not talking about the maracas... but they're in the middle, too! :D)

Cool organ sounds!!

Nice lead gtr licks. Some organ clams in there, but we won't say anythi-- oh. Whoops ;)

Bass is a little "middy"... not a lot of low content; kick drum (sample?) is mushy...

Really cool vibe. Nice job, man! Sorry if everything sounds negative... this is just crit-stuff ...
