Hi,
This is the first thing I have ever recorded and tried mixing, there are no vocals yet but I just finished recording with my steel player last night so its all the instruments. I can't figure out how to get my guitar to sound a bit more full and you guys may be able to help. Let me know what you think and how I can improve it to make it sound a bit more fat. This is all home recording too incase you were wondering. Trying to just make a demo with my band.

First of all--be encouraged! It's pretty darn good for your first recording. It's hard to be too specific, knowing that there will be vocals, but not hearing them in this mix.

For starters I'd say the lead/riff lines on the electric are a bit loud. The drums and the steel sound pretty good.

The acoustic...sounds like you recorded it direct with the pickup instead of the mic. Am I hearing right? If that's the case, there's almost no way of making it "pop" in the mix short of turning it up. Virtually all of the midrange warmth of an acoustic guitar is lost with the pickup and DI, but captured by recording it with a mic.

So let us know a bit more about how it was tracked and we'll go from there.

Overall, not too bad. You want the acoustic guitar to be more fat? The electric is already way too big and upfront. It makes the drums sound like they are 40 feet behind the guitar player.

The acoustic, as WS pointed out, sounds like it's been DI'd. Mic that sucker up. Use a stereo pair if you can. Then remix it and post that up.

yeah you guys are right, I did plug the acoustic in, I will try it with a mic at the twelveth fret, from what I have read that is where the best sound is. Yeah the guitar is pretty loud now that I have listened to it, I wanted it to stand out a lot but thats a bit too much. Thanks for the encouragement. I think we are going to do the vocals tonight so I should be able to post them up and hopefully get an Idea of how its all supposed to tie in together. I'll keep you updated and thanks again for the suggestions!

Alright guys here it is again, I have now added the vocals and some backup vocals that are probably gonna need some tweeking or to be re-done, but its what I got done last night. Let me know what I need to do to make it sound better. Again this is the first song Ive ever recorded so Im new to a lot of it here.

Thanks,
Morgan

Whoa get a gate on that thing! What is that hum? Get rid of it!

I agree that the accoustic is too in your face.
