Acoustic guitar and vocals. Everything else is direct.

My ceiling is sloped. 8ft on the high side and 7 ft on the low.

The room itself is 9 1/2 by 12 but there is a closet that juts out of one corner 4'3" x 2'2". There is also one window.

Sorry for the huge, fuzzy pictures.

I am hoping you will tell me that my room needs absolutely nothing but my limited experience in home recording tells me this is going to cost.

Any suggestions?

Okay, a couple of things. The first is about those monitors, you want to make sure they are as close to ear level as possible, that helps a lot with getting the correct mix. As far as treatment, you could probably get by with four to six 2'x4' portable panels. You can buy them premade or you can invest a little time (maybe a half hour apiece or something) and make them with materials that you can find from a place like atsacoustics.com or something. You can position these around you to minimize room effects. Any extra ambience can be added later (this is usually much better than whatever your room can offer). All in all, it might set you back a hundred bucks, maybe more depending on which route you take. Look into it.

In a 9x12 room, you're going to need a fair amount of broadband bass control. I'd say a minimum of 8 panels, 4-6" thick. Primarily in room corners but 2 on the wall behind your seating position to help with nulls off the back wall.

Thanks for the replies.

Ripthorn, Atsacoustic looks like a great resource. Thank you. My monitors are not as far above my head as you might think. With the slight tilt I am pretty much at ear level.

The two opinions are radically different when cost is a factor. Is there an easy way to test a room to determine for sure what my needs are?

Thanks again guys.
