Hey guys,

I will be recording some drum tracks soon. I will be using the 3 mic method with the added snare mic that was mentioned by Tubedude.

Overheads- 2x Behringer Ecm8000
Snare- Sm57
Kick- AT Pro25

The question I am asking is whether it's worth it to add a room mic into the equation with the Ecm 8000's as overheads. Being omnis do you think they'll pick up too much room sound or can I add a room mic.

I was going to use a Rode NT1000 as a room mic a few feet back.

Thanks in advance

I usually turn everything off except an overhead, the snare and the kick when I mix. You might try the NT1000 as a lone overhead. When you mix, I'd bet that you'd prefer it as a lone overhead to the Behringer mics.

its a matter of what will sound better to you in the mix.
how good is your room? if your room is decent put up the room mic and if you dont like it,no big deal.
