i know this pre isn't great but for $140 or under whats better? the RP503 is a pre/compressor/Eq

For 200 you can get the Joe Meek MQ3, which has a compressor and an EQ. It will handliy beat the Rolls.

ditto cominginsecond and i think you could get the studio projects vtb-1 or an audio buddy in that price range too.

i doubt he would want an audio buddy.
he only has 150, and he needs to buy a pre this weekend..
so the vtb-1 is 175.. i know it sounds good but it doesn't have a compressor on it...
and yes he'salready looked at the MQ3 but right now he can't get it.. if he gets the rolls he's onlygonna keep it until march... then he'll but a Focusrite Trackmaster..

now if he can get an extra 25.. he should buy thr vtb-1 with out a doubt.. but he needs a out board compressor..i told him i might be abe to cover him with $100 for it.. a Etek Dynamagic 2-Channel Compressor.. musicians friend has them for $99...would that be a good combo.. or at least a decent combo.. he's not a pro, but he does have some nice stuff and he makes good tracks, most of his stuff sounds real good..
