Roland XP Series vs. Others

OK, I'm coming down to 2 choices: Roland XP 30 or Triton LE (76-key) ...

Can you give me your thoughts on this ... They're about the same price range ...

Thanks !!!

I generally like Tritons and intend to get the Triton rack when time and money allow. The LE really rubs me the wrong way because it it severally limited in its expansion options, compared to the real Triton or Triton studio. However, when you compare the LE to a board like the Roland XP30, you can sort of see what Korg was thinking by selling a Triton "keyboard" without the sampler. The LE directly competes with the XP30 in every way.

Here it comes down to your personal taste. Do you like the Korg "sound" or the Roland "sound." For me I liked both, but only had money for one and chose the Roland first with the intention to pick up a Korg later...this was before the Motif came out so now my whole world is screwed up. However, if you're comparing these two, you should be ok with either as long as you're aware of both of their limitations.

Thank you Rev E !

So far I've only sampled a few sounds from both, I played with the Triton LE a bit more ...and I really like its sound - specially the sequencer option. On the other hand, I think the XP 30 has more sounds !! :D ...I think ....I'm gonna give Triton LE a try ....

Cheers !!! :)

I personally think that quality of sounds is more important than quantity of sounds. I also think the LE sounds are better than the XP-30 sounds. I think having a built in sequencer is better than not having one. I think the Korg "system" is easier to learn and understand than the Roland "system". I think a Triton TS is better than any other keyboard presently being made and would tend to buy the LE as a starter to move up eventually to a TS. But these are just my personal opinions. I have a fully expanded Korg Trinity V3, a Korg Pa80, an Akai S3000XL, a Korg D1600 and a Compaq 17XL460 laptop in my home studio and am very happy with the way it all works.

Korgs only sound better than Rolands because the waveforms are downed in FX. If you turned off the FX processors on both the Roland and Korg, the raw wavefroms on the Rolands sound better. I did an A/B comparisin with my XP30 and both my M1 and X5D.

This is important when you are working in a multitimbral mode (Performance on the Rolands - Combi's on the Korgs) because most sounds will not sound the same as the FX processors need to be shared.
