which should I buy? I'd appreciate any feedback on either of these Keyboards

I've been agonizing over the same question. While I favor Roland, the Yamaha seems to be the best bang for the buck. Let us know what you decide on. Good Luck!

Well, I had allready some bad experience with the XP-80. On a big orchestra rehearsel, it detuned all the time. And I remember the keyboardplayer utter: "also the XP-60 is nothing but trouble, just try to sequence with it decentely!"

have no experience with the yamaha though....

greetings!

I have a Ex5 and it's great. Infact it just blows me away sometimes. Now I will admit I'm guitar player by trade, but I have a few friends who are keyboard players and know their stuff and they seem to really like it. You will see criticisms about the EX5, coming mostly from comparisons to keyboards that cost at least a $1000 more than the EX5. Which isn't really fair. Like the other post said. It the biggest bang for the buck. I have owned an SY77 from Yamaha, and that keyboard stood strong too. Yamaha I feel has a better track record that Roland. like I said before, there are other keyboards that I think probably would blow me away also, but the price tag usually blows be away too. Korg being one of them.

the xp-80 is a very nice synth but the yamaha beats it my EX-5 is one of my most widely used keyboards second only to my triton. it is a very powerful synth that blows away alot of keyboards and i would recamend it to anyone.

I love the EX-5. I have owned Roland synths before and loved them too, but not the one you mentioned.

The sounds are great on the EX-5 and can be edited.
It does function as a sampler to althougH I have never used this function yet.

As you may have heard elsewhere, the workstation part is a bust, but you can always use midi to sequence the great sounds. It does have 64 bit polyphony

For the record

I been using the XP-60, mainly as a sound module, for nigh on a year and a half and have enjoyed every minute. Lost the manual almost instantly - but find it easy to work with
and damned dependable.
