Roland TD-6V recording to computer

Im trying to record my electric roland TD-6V kit to my computer so i can have an mp3 of playing. However, im really confused on how to do this.

Iv used a simple aux cable from the control box into my laptops recording port and used audacity to record but the quality is awful.

I also bought a midi - 2- usb but cannot work out how to record (use it). I used reaper, but it would not pick up anything...

Would anyone be able to tell me what i need to do...would be appreciated greatly!!

There's 2 ways to go about this.

1 - Get a firewire or usb audio interface with at least 2 channels. You can record the L/R master outputs of your td6 module. You will not be able to mix the audio later, add fx, nothing, cuz it's all pre-mixed down to 2 tracks. So you'll have to get the perfect mix on the module before you record.

2 - Create a midi track, and record the midi output while you're playing. Then you can run the midi back thru the module, or thru another vsti of sampled drums like Steven Slate, ezdrummer, battery, whatever.. You'll be able to edit the midi hits and move them around on the grid, change velocities, everything. The output tracks from the drum vsti will allow you to use fx and automation just like they were real drum tracks. If you use the module as a synth, you'll have to eventually record the audio off the module in stereo form. If you need to tweak the mix later, you'll have to edit the midi re-record the audio. If you're using a vsti, you don't have to go thru this process. When you use midi, you have to set the source of your midi track to be the midi device. It might not be set at all by default, or it might have a different midi controller as the default device, or maybe your midi/usb cable isn't set up in windows or something.
