I have been looking into buying the Roland Studio Pack which consists of the VM pro digital mixer and the R-bus card. Has anyone tried this yet? What is the verdict?

I've had one for a month and I love it. Best value in digital recording. It's a little complicated for newbies but if you can figure out the routing schemes its a great little mixer. Logic RPC is okay, it works but is pretty complicated and only works on Win98.

Second ya on that one Tex. Had some routing problems early on, but it is an extremely good value. LOVE IT!

I'm interested on it too, what do you mean by "Routing Problems"?

Just in figuring out all the diffrent routing capabilities. Once you get it doen though it's a wonderful little bundle.

Ok, sorry, I'm slow, the only routing I've heard about is computer networks routers, what does it referr to in audio?

Well then you have a basic idea. The signal on this mixer can be routed in a variety of ways, and to numerous channels. Effects, dry, eq'ed etc. One of the best ways to get started is to use the EZ Routing button and to see what it does.

The documentation basicly blows so there is a lot of playing you'll need to do, but all in all it's pretty easy to get the hang of. Once you do, you'll love the value of this piece.

I will be replacing it soon with the 2480, but will bekeeping this as a midi mixer.

The routing "problem" is that you can assign just about any input to any output and there are many ways to put stuff pre/post fader/send etc.

You really only need 2 setups. One for tracking and one for mixing. Once you get it dialed in for your setup then you can save the configs. It just takes a bit of manual searching and experimenting to get what you want.

In it's stock mode it is fine for basic tracking/mixing. When you want to get fancy it will require a little more homework.

I have an XV5080 (with RBUS outs) and was consider this package. Its basically the same front end as the VS1880.

Its pretty cool what you get for the money. That same mixer sold for nearly a grand before they started offering this bundle.

I heard you can record either with RBUS or SP/DIF or Analog but never in any combination. Is that true?
