Rzzzzz!
I'm about to use my Roland MRC-500 sequencer for the first time.
If anyone with experience with this unit can find a flaw in my approach, please point it out and save me some time.
I use a MOtU XT MIDI router. Currently, I have three controllers going IN and four modules connected to the OUTs.
I'm going to plug the Roland MRC-500 into one IN and one OUT.
I am going to program the router to send and recieve to all ports (basically turning it into a giant merger).
I will set each module to a different MIDI channel (i.e., My Alesis QSR will be set to channel 1, my Yamaha AN200 set to channel 2 etc.)
I will set each controller to send on a channel that matches one (or more) of the modules.
The sequencer will be set to recieve on all channels.
Here are the questions.
Do you think I will have any trouble hearing the modules when I record a sequence in real time?
Will the MRC-500 send MIDI back out to the appropriate channes to control the right modules during playback?
I think that my logic is correct (since I'm routing all signals to everything, the appropriate modules will respond to the channel assigned to it and ignore the rest).
Any reason this shouldn't work?
Last question. The MRC-500 is capable of recording 100,000 notes. That sounds like a lot, but is it really? I tend to ramble quite a bit and have been known to play for 20 minutes.
