Worth the money or not? I play in a reggae/punk band so I really need a good clean sound, as well as a workable distortion. I know the JC's OD isn't up to much but I use stompboxes live for distortion and I'm happy to keep it that way (for a while at least). Is the JC's clean tone as good as I've heard? I read the reviews on harmony-central.com and to be honest, it sounds too good to be true. Any experience with one? Is it reliable?

Great clean sound. I used the JC-120 on the Madhouse EP (old D.C. post-punk band) and I loved it.

I use a jc-77 which is a smaller version (80 watts 2x10) I traded up my 1969 twin reverb to get it, if that tells you anything. They are very very clean almost transparent when set to flat. Its more of a surgical tool than an amp. I love it.

They are a one trick pony. They do the clean chorused 80s sound really well. Once you try and do anything will a little bit of gain, I think you will be disapointed.

The JC-120 is one of the all time classic clean sounds. If you want clean, you can not go wrong with a JC.

what you put into a JC120 you get out of it... if your stompboxes are good, then your tone will be great.

I used to run one with my MesaBoogies for my clean sound{it was the early 80's..LOL} worked well..The only distortion box I used with one was a Rat..not bad.. Belew used on for quite a bit..he got alot of cool sounds with it

Yeah I mixed some records with him and Fripp playing them from the early 80s and it sounded cool. they handled all the synth guitar stuff really well.

I think that they ran distortion pedals through them too. Kinda very fuzzy sound.

if you like the jangly, clean and chorused guitar sound on Rush's mid-80's albums, you have the JC120 to thank as well. Alex has been through just about the gamut of amps, it seems, and this was his mainstay through the 80's.

One of things nobody's mentioned is that the JC120 isn't just a one trick pony.. it's a work horse. I've had mine for 20 years to hell and back and it still kicks ass. I heard the older ones are built more solid than the newer ones, though.

Distortion sucks ass, though. I use a sansamp original, triac, and a mesa boogie v-twin all with great results.
