Roland D-20 issues

I've had a Roland D-20 for the longest time. Two questions:

1. I've read on the net that there's a firmware update available for this machine. Does anybody know anything more about it?

2. My D-20 (and I suspect others as well) has a poor signal-to-noise ratio. Is there any way to improvie it?
