I have been unsuccessful at attaining a good "John Martin" type acoustic guitar sound.To me my acoustic sounds very harsh.I have tried mic placement but to no avail.Here's a list of my equipment....
Martin CEO-4 Acoustic->Rode Nt3->Spirit Folio notepad mixer->Soundblaster Audigy.
I was wondering if you good folks could point me in the direction of the holy Grail?...Am i using the wrong Mic?
Thanx

Mic it 'from over the shoulder', the mic next to the head, or mic it near the 12th fret.

The NT3 is a nice mic, but very bright sounding.

Part of the problem could be your Soundblaster... it's not a very good soundcard. Also, it's been a while since I've used my Rode NT3's, but if I remember correctly they are not as bright sounding as the Marshall MXL603S's and were closer to the MC-012's and or NT5's. Along with trying different mic placements also try some different rooms. Do you have any other mic's besides the Rode NT3?

Well the only other mic i have is an SM57 ,but condensers are supposed to be better than dynamics I'm told?...maybe it's just a digital thing.I remember ages ago making some recordings on a Tascam Pota 02.Granted the noise was a little high, my acoustic sounded wonderfully warm and that was just with the SM57.

Humm, since the SM57 worked ok with your old recorder... I suggest trying the SM57 again with your new computer recorder to determine if your main problem is the mic or the new recording system... then we can take it from there.
