Rode NT1a Cuts out When to Close????

I don't know if my mic is messin up or what, but when i get to close, like right on it and talk. My mic cuts out for like 5 seconds and comes back on. And by cuts out i mean, Nothin goin 2 the preamp, cuz the lights don't move they just sit still, cuz someone tell me whats wrong???

OK, the prime cause of mics (condensor mics) cutting out when too close is bad breath. The acids in your breath tend to melt the condensor element little by little. Use some Scope or equivillent brand of mouthwash before you step up to the mic. A good test before you record is to have a girlfriend or wife present and blow into her face. If the eyes close and tear, or their hair singes, it is a good indicator that your mic will cut out.
