So racking up posts like these is how you get to be a senior member? Us lowly newbie's have finally found the ticket to "force of naturedom".

Is there another way?:D

I think Gidge has the answer, and you should all listen to him. When posts like these come up, he consistently posts a list of useful links, whether they be to homerecording.com or to other sites. I find this not only helpful, but a subtle and intelligent way to handle repeated topics.

Anyway, I never saw Sonnixx's comparison of the C1 and NTK before, so that was a nice addition to a thread that is otherwise useless.

Marshall MXLv67....

how, on your 2nd post, do you know Alan Hyatt spams, i mean hangs out, here?........

Well it seems Gidge likes to carry grudges, but my response to Stimson23 will be made because "he asked", and it is as follows. In "my opinion", the RODE is a good quality mic. All of its components, except for maybe a couple come from the same factory where I have my C1 made, so I hold more confidence in the newer RODE's than other brand mics made elsewhere.

They are both built extremely well, and both sound great, but I take up with Chessparov on the C3. While the C3 is a lower output and requires more gain on the mic pre, the end results are quite significant, especially having the selectable patterns which gives you more control. It is also a smoother mic than the C1 which Sonixx seemed to like about the RODE NTK, so you do get the best of both worlds with the C3.

You should be able to buy the C3 for about $350.00, so check around. In either case, you should be very satisfied by the C1, C3, or the Rode NTK. These mics will keep working for you for a long time.

Alan, although this is a bit off topic, I'm assuming you went to the
NAMM convention. Your comments on the new products out would
surely be appreciated by a lot of the members here.
You could focus on NON mike/mic pre products for obvious
reasons! Although I suppose your stuff could be part of the
recording chain that goes with it.......

P.S. I'm excited about the Joe Meek VC6Q that coming for me
next week. With Gidge's "tip off" I scored it for about
$200 at Guitar Center. My C1 should really cook with it.

thats not a grudge, thats just curiosity......how does he know on his 1st or 2nd post who or what a Alan Hyatt is, much less assume he hangs out here to direct a question at him........

chess, i settled on 2 of the vc3q's...

as far as post counts, i have learned ALOT since ive been coming here....recording-wise im still a newbie so the theory that post count means absolutely nothing is true.....but if you are looking for information, i can point you in the right direction.......

Gidge, a good setting for the VC3Q's compressor is around
9 O'Clock for "amount" and "attack" for vocals. The setting
in the manual is a bit much for my tastes.

Alan, the problem with Gidge's "spam" comment was that you
couldn't see the wink behind his "sunglasses" (icon). Thank God in real life we get all the body language-otherwise
most everyone in "The Sopranos" would be whacked!
Maybe we need the new "breaking your balls" icon.
And how about something like Mercenary's "pin-up"s at your
website? For artistic value of course.

Gidge,
Oddly enough, it seems a lot of people frequent HR without actually registering or posting. Maybe they are just lacking the confidence to put their necks on the block, so to speak, (god knows what they must think of some of the posts here) or maybe they are just getting a feel for the place before posting. What ever the reasons, you can bet there are many more out there who "know" Alanhyatt, Ausrock, Gidge, Harvye G, etc..........but we never "see" them.

It really isn't worth worrying about.

Gidge, I thought we agreed our secret would kept quiet...

As for the NAMM Show guys, I have been locked at my booth and today...Sunday, will be the only day I wil finally have time to go out and check things out. We are right next to the Manley booth, so we all have been having some fund shooting the shit. I had EveAnna try out our new foot massager...I think she fell in love.

Anyway, I will try to see what I can find out there. I did see that Marshall showed a new low cost mic with a battery option. They are also down our aisle, but I did not have time to listen to it. Well, more later...:D

Boys!!! Boys!!! Boys!!!

You've got to stop all this nonsense,When a newbie posts which is a better mic or what can I get for $100.00 and this happens almost daily, you all become third rate salesman.Just respond with USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION!!!!!!Gidge becomes a marshall spokesman, Alan we know what side he's on, so on,etc. Then on top of it the thread becomes a pissing contest.Personally,I think all mics suck!!!!!! There to damn expensive and don't remind me with "home recording has never been more affordable to the masses until now", "years ago you would pay ten times as much for the same mic as what you can get it for now"I don't care!! The bottom line is I own a 4033,ntk,mc012's,sm57's,at4041,d112, and guess what they all cost to much money!!!Yes,if you want to record you've got to own some mics and they are all not created equal. But, let's say I've got approx. $2100.00 in microphones and I'm happy with them. I still paid $2100.00 that sucks!!! Neumann U87 $2000.00 or more if it's vintage, that's freakin outrageous.Hell, think about how many lap dances I could of afforded for $2100.00 probably could of took one of those ladies home with me for that amount of money. Now, back to reality I will probably spend thousands more in the next 40 years on microphones just to have more flavors, but I hope someday I could just wake up and not see a thread at the top of the microphone forum with the words "Which mic is better or what should I buy" I listen to criticism about possible future purchases then I go and check them out myself and make my decision mainly based on my experiences.Considering this turned into a pissing thread I just wanted to vent off some of my unneeded aggression. As for Gidge and Alan, don't worry my friends I will probably wind up with both a marshall and a studio projects mic in my mic cabinet sooner than later. But please refer newbies to previous threads in the future!!!

But harley, the previous threads are filled with "Alan" and "Gidge"
comments! (like I'm innocent too) It's too late to start now.

Some of us like to see some lively debate, imagine how boring it would be
without it!

Er, that's exactly what I did with the first response, and some folks took offense to it.

There's nothing wrong with debating techniques, and other qualities when it pertains to microphones and there uses. The problem I have is everyday I visit this microphone forum and find the same title."which mic is better and why?" and the same people over and over again recommending the same mics all the time.If you visit often, like I do it's like the movie groundhog day!!
I feel every mic has it's uses in any particular situation. There is a forum here called newbies and that's where these vague questions should be, and leave the mic. forum for useful, informative, educational, debatable, topics pertaining to microphones and there uses. But, tommorrow I'll wake up and see the famous title "which mic should I buy" and WHY? Then, "I think a marshall V67 would be the mic for you" or etc., etc.,etc.Just IMHO.:D

Alan tell EveAnna id rub her feet ANYTIME....shell be pleased to know theres a psycho on the net with a crush on her......

harley you mentioned my name a few too many times in that post...someone else have a crush:eek: :D ;) :p

anyone, ill address the search function...if i had been sent to use the search function everytime i had a question when i first came here, i wouldnt have stayed long...it chaps my ass for someone to simply respond "use the search funtion"...why even bother to post at all if you dont have any friggin advice......

also ive recommended the c1 just as much as the v67...the only difference is i dont have any monetary ties to one of the companies....my eyes were opened to a great deal on a mic (v67) by Harvey Gerst and every chance i get when it fits someones budget/needs, i will recommend it....or i could just say "use the search function".......

what i represent here on the BBS is the little guy who has a hobby recording in the corner of the spare bedroom...ive never presented myself as more...this is HOMErecording.com......im the guy that had $150 to spend on a cheap condenser mic and found out about it in the Mic Forum.....

"useful, informative, educational, debatable, topics pertaining to microphones "....go to the Computer Recording forum and someone is looking for a cheap soundcard EVERYDAY.....go to the Guitar and Bass forum and someone is looking for a cheap axe at least once a week.....etc. ...etc.....part of learing to record at home is picking the gear....the day that this site loses touch with what brought it this far would be a sad day....

one of the forum tags for the mic forum is "What mic to buy?"...who died and let you decide what is allowed in the mic forum?.....if you cant deal with Newbie BS, you may wanna try one of the pro sites.....

and i dont giva a jackshit if you get a Marshall mic or not...i have no vested interest......

chess, shame on you for joining in on the Gidge bashing......

man...I looked everywhere for the studio projects booth at namm. we ended up downstairs right at about 6 (why does it ever close...I wanted to sleep there) Most mic companies were there but no studio projects. Alan where was it? I REALLY wanted to see the new mic pre.

Here we go again with a deep and meaningful discussion.........

Where newbies are concerned (and we have all been a newbie), it is easy to understand why they frequently post a question and don't use the search function;
1; As a newbie thay don't really know what has been discussed in the past.....OK, they could do a little bit of lateral thinking.
2; The "SEARCH" button is so friggin' tiny you don't see it too easily.
BUT......... tdukex's original post wasn't offensive (definitely to the point and factual) and it was good advice.
Gidge, while I agree almost 100% about this being HOMERECORDING, etc., your first post didn't come close to addressing the specifics of the original question asked.......I regarded the "spam" comment as being "tongue in cheek", but really, that issue should be left to die unless the Forums' Head Honcho wants to take it further. (BTW, if Marshall were available here I'd most likely have one to go with my C1).

Ultimately we should all be here to both learn and also help each other where we can, and directing a newbie to the search function is giving them good advice.

OK, rant over, and Gidge, I don't mean to "bash" you:)

i answered the question in my original post....the v67......

yes the spam comment was toungue in cheek...i think everyone knows i have a fetish about the word "spam".....

btw, i think everything about recording that could possibly be covered here has been done so no more new threads will be accepted.....youll have to use the search function......

and while you are at it, search "Spam" with username Gidge...ive got some classics.......

QUOTE;........"and while you are at it, search "Spam" with username Gidge...ive got some classics......."

But will I learn anything about recording or just get a good laugh?:D

If all the good information that has been posted here could be compiled and catagorised and placed in an accessable database, what a wonderful resource it would be for everyone. And NO, I'm not volunteering to do it.

on that search it will be just fun...but if you just want info, go buy the book...i like the human element here.......
