Could I have an unbiased judgement on these two mics? I would also appreciate some Alan Hyatt remarks as well. I have been racking my brain on this because I am building a permanent setup and I really want to get a good multi-purpose mic for not a lot of cash. Also, if you say the C1, do you feel it out performs the Rode NTK?

First of all, you will not received any unbiased judgements here. Second, if you do a search of the bbs on these mics you will see this topic (with these mics and others) has been covered time, after time, after time...

I'm not trying to be an ass, but there's nothing else to say about these mics that hasn't been said ad nauseam.

Put a little time and effort into it and use the search function.

Marshall MXLv67....

how, on your 2nd post, do you know Alan Hyatt spams, i mean hangs out, here?........

Depends on the preamp and how it reacts to the particuar mic..It depends on the voice you are tryin to capture...It depends on the guitar{size}..It depends on the type of music..It depends on the density of the mix..You really have to try them out for yourself and see if any mic is the right one for you!I dont think there is any one mic that is the be all and end all..I would think that if you are looking for a single mic..Well maybe a "kit" like the Oktava MCO12 ,3 small caps plus LOMO{large cap}..[www.oktava.com] of something similar.Good luck

What he said.

I think we need to work on the quality of our threads here at homerec. :)

Stimson, my vote is for you to check out the Studio Projects C3.
It's multi-pattern and sounds even better than the C1.
Alan will send you a listening CD to help give you a better idea if asked.
(Although you may end up lusting for the T3!)

There are more polite and appropriate ways to advise the guy. And I'll agree with JuSumPilgrim in regards to improving the threads here. Like not posting things like "What he said".

Y'all could just point him towards one of the other C1 threads instead of making the guy feel bad on only his 2nd post.

hey Stimson23,

pay no attention to tdukex...

i have two of each NTK and C1 and i've spent quiet a bit of time comparing these two mics and here's my opinion:

C1:
a bit more presence than a NTK...
fairly good sentitivity (a lot better than a NT1 i had two of these...no longer)...
not quite as smooth as the NTK...
has a lot of uses but the NTK may work in more situations...
value for the buck...i think so...
about the same amount of air...
warmth...close to the NTK but maybe the NTK has the edge

NTK:
smoother...
maybe abit more versatile...
good sensitivity...
FWIW...looks and feels great...built like a tank...

heres some uses where i picked one over the other

Kit overheads - NTK or 4050
my voice - neither i use a 4050
my Takamine guitar - C1 when using in M+S configuration and NTK when stereo paired

both the NTK and C1 suck with my voice.

both generally sound good to me but like any mic neither fit all occasions, but if i could only buy one i'd go for the NTK unless you really can't afford the extra cash (BPMMusic.com has the NTK for $389).

i can't say which is best, but the NTK may have the edge in versatility.

i have spent some time comparing these two using the 3daudio.com CDs and recording my speakers. i'll be glad to send you a comparision on both female and male voice. let me know. you can hear a difference.

I think on price points, the C1 is the winner. Chess might have ann idea...for the price of Rode, you can move up to a C3. The bottom line...your ears and back pocket will have to make the decission. I have a C1 and it works fine for me, but like everyone else here, we're all looking to go back into the candy store again. You will either buy out of need, or buy out of need to have. Its a vacious cycle.

I think you newbies miss the point. The C1, NTK, marshall v67, oktava, etc have been discussed endlessly for the last year. Everything that could be said about them has been said. There is a search button on the board. When I first got here and needed some info on gear, I used it and got the info I needed, getting to know dif people and their level of knowledge in the process. Posting questions like "which is better?" is careless, lazy, and not smart bec there rarely is better or worse, theres what works for x application as opposed to y. Doing a casual search for the items will give you much more accurate info than posting and getting 3 or 4 responses from questionable sources.

Peace

why would you take the time to tell a fellow Home Recorder that his question is Careless, Lazy, and not Smart?

if you don't like the question, maybe consider not responding. Stimson23's just looking for advice and information.

Thanks, JuSumPilgrim. My point exactly. Anybody who knows me on this Board knows I enjoy helping people and try my best to do so--WHEN THE QUESTIONS ARE APPROPRIATE.

IMO it IS appropriate to inform a newbie who, instead of putting forth the little effort required to use the search function and do a little research on their own, lazily begins yet another thread covering an exausted topic, that they should use the dang search function before posting.

Was I blunt in my statement? Yes.

Was it intended to offend or insult? No. My apology to Stimson23. I do wish you well in your mic pursuit.

Did I make my point? I hope so.

Cheers to all.:D

Who are you, the manners moderator? Gimme a fucking break. :p

So racking up posts like these is how you get to be a senior member? Us lowly newbie's have finally found the ticket to "force of naturedom".

now you break out the adult language...you've really got the knack for raising the level of dialog...

not the manners anything, just trying to help a guy out.

"questionable sources"

Hey I resemble that remark!

Actually, some of the members like myself don't mind some
rehashing if it's for the benefit of new members.
Probably the easiest thing for everyone's nerves is for those
who are burnt out on a given topic to simply ignore the post
or encourage someone new to use the search function without
laying judgement on the person or their question as a matter
of bbs etiquette. (Not laying any judgement myself on anyone
here!)

P.S. The most important thing anyway is the quality of
performance as long as you have decent (or better)
microphone(s) to capture it! Certainly all the mikes
discussed can do the job.
