Greetings,

I am in the market for a good all-around microphone in the $200-300 range and the Rode NT1 seems like a good possibility. Anyone have any opinions on this mic? I would be using it for vocal, guitar, and trumpet recording. How does it compare with the CAD M177 or AKG C1000S?

Thanks in advance,
Trumpetman.

I have a Rode NT-1. It's 'ok', but I think there are some better options out there now. The MXL V67G, although I haven't heard it, it is getting some favourable feedback. The AT4033 gets recommended often and falls within your price range.

Or, you could buy one of these,

And let me know how it sounds... :)

I have a few AKG C1000's. These are different than the Rode since they are small diaphragm as opposed to the large diaphrapm of the NT's and the other mic's I mentioned in the first paragraph.

Thanks Emeric for the reply.

What about the Octava (Russian) mics? There's a large-diaphragm model MC319 and a smaller model MC012 that I have been told are very nice. They are also very inexpensive (Guitar Center/Musician's Friend prices $199 for the MC319 and $149 for the MC012). Has anyone used one of these?

Thanks again,
Trumpetman.
