RODE k2 TUBE MIC.

today i have both RODE NT1A and SHURE KSM 27.

i intend to upgrade my mic. arsenal, and was thinking about the K2

anyone has recommendations on this one?

I think the Rodes are great mics, but for that kind of money I also think you would be better off to look at a different brand. The K2 has the advantage of selectable patterns, but the other specs on it are not as good as the NT1A. If you dont need variable patterns, then your NT1A is a better bet than the K2. Your KSM27 is no slouch either.

If you really need a different condenser with specs similar to the NT1A, I would look at AT or AKG. You will derive more benefit from having different brands in your arsenal rather than having several of one brand.

Depending on what you want to use it for, you might also look at a few of the better large diaphragm dynamic mics, like the RE20 or the MD421. You could get both of those for the cost of one K2. But you didn't say what you will be using it for.....

i am quite satisfied with my ksm 27 for vocals, but was thinking about a dual diaphragma condenser (for vocals),not neccesarily a tube mic.

anyhow,the ksm 27 works better for me on vocals then the rode.

I dont think so, the specs are so close anyway that I think you would have to have really expensive gear to be able to hear the difference. The NT2A is a good deal for a multi-pattern mic, I think its a much better buy than the K2, and you can use the other $300 or $400 bucks to get some other gear you may need. If you need variable pattern, which does have it's uses, then I would think the NT2A would be just as good as any AT or AKG or Shure multi-pattern mic in the same price range. Lots of good things are coming out of Aussie land lately, and the Rodes are no exception! I cant wait to try the figure 8 on an acoustic guitar and a mellow vocal using the "mid-side" setup.
