I am looking at upgrading from the Nt1-A to the K2. Is this a decent upgrade?

Also, I will be running the K2 through a Mbox 2. Will this be substantial? I am recording vocals.

If you are thinking about upgrading to another Rode, you might also like to consider the NT2a.

The Mbox will be 'substantial'.

If you are just recording vocals, you don't need the multiple polar patterns. Just get an NTK. Yes, it's an upgrade. NTK and K2 are among the best all around vocal mics in their price range. The NTK or K2 will work fine with almost any preamp. They are very hot (high output) mics, and don't need a lot of gain. One tip- They need to warm up. If you put your hand on the NTK or K2 and it feels like cold steel, it's not ready. If it feels like a warm body, you're good to go. This takes 5 minutes on a hot day in August, and 45 minutes in an unheated warehouse in January in Massachusetts.-Richie

Thanks for the perspective Rich. I'm having that taper madness the day before a marathon. Trying to requalify for that big Boston race out your way.

Yo Morningstar! Feel free to send me a PM. Come on out and visit while you're here. We can start an IV or something on whatever's left of you.-Richie

I disagree, I like recording vocals in omni if I can. Unless its a live performance, then I'll do Cardoid. But generally, omni.

And I will also say yes to the NT2-A. Great mics.

I sing through an NTK and I definitely notice it warms up after about 30 minutes....get bolder, punchier, louder.....
