yes
i play rock music....everything under the sun...the closest thing i can compare is foo fighters. i like a nice over drive sound.

now, i like a good clean sound as well. i think the new ac30s have two channels, but one of the channels has 2 sounds.

the ac30 is much cheaper.

You won´t get the Recto distortion with the AC neither the clean of the AC on the Recto...

after reading, they have an ac50 which has a high gain channel, and the ac 30 classic clean.

anyone have any experience with these?

i say f&^*%^ it and go with a Fender Hot Rod.

Put a tubescreamer in front of that bitch. Game over.

I'm going to reccommend a B-52. I admire the cleans that come out of it but still has a nice thick punch if you want it to, and everything in between.

Just my opinion of course. I use a B-52 ST6012.

True, but you also won't get the AC30 distortion with a Dual Rectifier. Of course, if you are talking about a new AC30 with master volume and all, you won't get the AC30 distortion with that either. The AC30 distortion is all about the power tubes.

AC30 is a much more versatile amp than the dual-rec IMO...go with it!

Sure you can. Channel gains down, master volume way up, and there you have it.

Absolutely. And if you really want to get into Dual-Recto territory soundwise, you can always get use a boost/overdrive/metal distortion pedal in front of the AC30.

does anyone have any experience with the ac50?

No direct experience. From the reviews I have read, it is an entirely different beast and can get some very dark, overdriven tones.

channel one is supposed to have an ac30ish clean, and a nice overdrive on channel two. the only thing i wonder is if 2 channels will hold me back for lower gain stuff. you know, channel 1 clean, 2 is OD.

what if i want something in the middle?

What I used to do with another amp was to run the amp pretty clean and then use two levels of pedal overdrive to obtain either an edgy breakup, or full-tilt distortion. It worked pretty well. Unless you get a three-channel amp you'll have to do something like this.

AC30 plus a tube screamer.

The top boost channel is awesome. The second channel with reverb and tremolo is just ok.

I think that Dogman has the AC100, you might PM him to see what tones it delivers.
Oops, I was wrong-he has the Vox AD100VT Valvetronix Guitar Combo Amplifier, which is more of a modeling amp-not a tube amp after all....

Actually, Supercreep, the reverb and tremolo are global, as is the overall tone cut function. The top boost channel has its own bass and treble controls, though, while the Norm channel does not. The norm channel has two preset EQ profiles, one of which sounds very vanilla, the other being a bit brighter.

But I find the norm channel to be very useful for clean work that doesn't require the bite provided by the top boost channel.

(At least this is the way it works on mine - it's about a year old.)

The one I picked up Saturday has a channel blend function, but I can't seem to get verb and trem on the TB channel solo.

That's odd. I can get reverb and trem on both channels. I think. I'm positive about the reverb being available on both, because I made a point of checking that last night. I'll check the tremolo tonight and compare notes with you.

Edit: are you using the footswitch?

I think the head is fucked up. I can't get any reverb on either channel now. I'm using the footswitch and supplied stereo cable.

Maybe the footswitch is fucked up. Unplug it and see what you get.
