So I was looking through old files of shit I have on my computer and I found some of my old band's recordings I did before we went to a real studio. Here's a rough mix of everything but the vox (I kept one part in for flavor ;)). I really like the drum sound I got on this, but I don't quite remember what I used on it. I believe it was a dual channel trident for the ohs and I believe a peavey vmp2 for the snare and kick, m12 pres probably for the toms (only 1 rack and floor), under snare, and room mic.

For some reason both the kick and snare were recorded reeeeeally low in level, so I had to compress to bring them up a bit, but still.

Let me know what you think! Thanks.

(hell yeah, lightning mp3 allows any bitrate mp3s! 320kbps here I come!)

Chris,
I like the drum sound too. It's pretty up front in the mix now - maybe too much.
I actually like everything the toppy bit of bass with thedeeper bass under neath, the song seems pretty good too.
I don't like the guitar sounds though. I'm just not a fan of that ultra brutal thump guitar sound - except - funnily enough - when Helmet did it 1st way back in the 90's. Gimme Tommi Iommi gtr if it's metal.
I do look forward to hearing a full vocal track to round it out.
Cheers

Listening to it now at work the guitars do sounds pretty low, and not so great. Haha. I'll work on those more this weekend to get them sounding a little better. They sound a bit fizzy to me.

Thanks Ray!

Hey Chris,

I love the intro.

The drums are sounding pretty good, the kick could do with a little more oomph.

The guitars definitely need to be brought up in the mix. They are sounding great though!
The tune is rocking along, very busy drumming but I like it! Nice playing! Very nice playing in fact!

Great, I love it! I would like to hear this with the vocals!

Thanx for sharing!

Good tune, drums are pretty nice (I enjoy a live drummer). Yes, maybe bring up the guitars on this a touch. The overall texture of the mix is nice - what are you using to get that?

To get what? Sorry, I don't understand what you're asking. :)

Chris,
Better - makes more sense with a melody.
Some of the guitar sounds are clearer too.
Did the singer have to get nodules replacement surgery after the chorus?
Thanks for the update. Nice work.

For those who wanted vocals, here's a new mix:

http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?fid=3099

The music mix sounds fine in context with the vocals!
The vocals sound a little distant and could be bought forward in the mix ever so slightly. Then when the backup vocals come in they are slightly too loud for the music!!!.........A few volume tweaks will sought this out...No big deal!!
The singer sounds like he is struggling at times which causes slight pitching problems. However the work you have done here is great!

Are you the vocalist???

Gorty :)

Thanks both of you for checking it out again.

The backing vocals may just come out all the way. Yeah they're too loud right now, but also they're a little off pitch a few times. So who knows. I might just find one that's in tune and copy it for all of them since he just does the same thing four times in a row.

No I am not the vocalist, but I was in the band for around 3 years. I played guitar. The 'background guitar' is what I called it. Meaning I played rhythem and rocked out a lot. :D
