Are the two channels on the RNC (though they share the same controls) .. separate or summed .. or what?
For example:
If I use one unit for two mics over a spread of 4 toms .. will the channels be affected by each other? .. say like on a roll descending through the 4 toms, will the attack of the second spread of toms affect the decay of the previously struck first pair .. if that makes sense.. or would it be best to use just the L (mono) channel for one unit (and set of toms) and use another unit for the next set of toms? Then utilizing the "stereo" set up of both channels simultaneously for programme material only?
Any Ideas or Opinions about this?
Anyone, of course, thinking about purchasing this unit - don't hesitate. They seem to live up to the hype. It's all I can do not using "RealNice Mode" all of the time! I got 4 units : two racked together and 1 each racked with their "parent" RNPs from Mercenery. As an aside, the RNPs are slamming too. Use them for the Kick (ATM25), Snare (SM57) and Two Sets of Toms (AT4033s) referred to above. Granted, I have only actually tracked with these once.. but definitely a lot cleaner than the pres in my Mackie 32/8. I don't know if this is just a "psychological effect" .. but it seemed as though the "isolation" between mics increased a bit using the external pres.
I have not used the RNCs inserted into the RNPs .. usually don't compress while tracking .. that may change - but the above issue of the RNC's "separate channels" (or lack thereof) will help me in either case... so any opinions using the two (RNP/RNC) together in this manner will definitely be helpful!
as always .. thanks for your patience.
