RME Hammerfall MuliFace DSP 24/96 or Digi 002 ?

I've been comparing these two also...

MultiFace... mf
Digi 002 Rack... dr

mf has no preamps/phantom power, dr has preamps/phantom power on four of eight. To duplicate this functionality with mf you can purchase a RME QuadPre. I think that the QuadPre should be part of the Multiface. Don't know how good the preamps are from either manufacturer though, for what it is worth, it has been stated that the dr preamps trump those on the Tascam FW-1884. Bit of a digression there....

dr has dedicated headphone out/control, dedicated monitor out/control, and some neat circuitry for routing the signal from a CD player for monitoring only, or routing the signal through the sequencing software. Doing so uses channels 7/8. mf has none of that.

Do not know which has the better A/D/A conversion.

Both have MIDI, dr uses firewire, mf uses dedicated PCI or dedicated PCMCIA adapter.

dr is Protools only and bundled, mf your choice at additional cost.

dr is cheaper at approx $1,200 incl software. mf + PCI adapter + QuadPre approx $1,400 no software.

The more I have looked at the Digi 002 Rack the better it has looked.

Love to hear what others think.

Postscript.... The dr arguably works best with macs (I have a PC), and with both macs and PCs, you need a buffed up computer. dr needs a HDD dedicated to audio.

Thanks,

I has a session using the MF and loved it . It sounds really good.

No need for pres/ routing features you described.

The main question is which one has better a/d/a or sounds better....
