RME breakout cable question....

...and it might be a stupid one.

I have a Tascam tm-d1000 connected to an RME HDSP 9652. I have a tc electronic m300 that has spdif ins & outs.

Can I connect the m300 to the 9652 via the breakout cable pictured below, then bus tracks out of Logic, through the m300, and back into Logic? Is that the purpose of the breakout cable? What's with the 9-Pin ADAT sync cable connected to it?

The obvious answer is hook it up and try it. It's easier if someone knows the answer already.

The 9652 does have a breakout cable with both s/pdif in and out. There is no picture in your first post in this thread, so I can not confirm that the cable you are referring to is the correct one. The s/pdif on the RME can certainly be used to send in and out of your TC M300. Remember that there will be some latency by the time the TC returns the track. With a time based FX algorithm though this may not be an issue at all since you will likely be returning wet delays, verbs etc...

As for the ADAT 9 pin sync jack.... ADAT machines use this connection to link multiple ADAT machines together and keep them running in sync. ADAT's are capable of receiving time code through these, but the ADAT 9 pin format is not used that much anymore now that ADAT machines are finally (thank whichever God, God's, godesses or whatever you may or may not believe in) disappearing.

Yes, the male end goes into the 9652 9-pin port. The red RCA is SPDIF out (send) and the white RCA is SPDIF in (return.)

You will likely have to go into the hardware properties of your recording software to set which device to send track outputs to. Some recording software lets you choose inputs/outputs for each track right from the multitrack window.
