Heres an epic of a tune...this is more or less a rough mix-There's alot to listen for in this one-harmonica-banjo-bowed guitar-hand drums....any recording-arrangement-mixing-song critiques welcome...Enjoy!

nice guitar sounds.........i like the banjo, nice rolls..........the harmonies were a nice added touch too..............sounds really good...more than a 'rough sketch'....what else are you planning on w/ it?

yo master of the strat, great tune. I too like the guitars. The banjo works real good in the mix. And as pf said, nice harmonies, and this doesn't sound like a rough sketch.

There's only one nice thing I can say about this "tune."

"NICE BITRATE"

(oh yeah, and it pretty much completely kicked ass in every respect :D...what did you use for chimes? The whole thing's perfectly balanced in my opinion, it sounds great at low volumes and at high volumes, and I already burnt it onto a CD and it passed the "car test" with flying colors and I'd be proud).

Nice acoustic guitars. Love 'em. I like the drum mixing. Whoa, a banjo!... NICE :D You really should mix it louder, really. It makes the song less standard and it's cool. Good singing and vocal harmonies. I don't know what to say. I guess the mix should be a bit louder, but I have mixed feelings about it. Everything sounds pretty much in balance for me. Just make that banjo louder.

Very, very cool... wasn't going to comment (as there are things to do this afternoon and... can't ... break ... HOMERECORDING.COM's ...powerfulll.... GRIP... mmust... get work done!! ;))

But damn. This song rules, man. I love it. Love the plunk-uh-plunk-uh banjo. Ditto the comments about mixing it a bit more up. The chord changes are very non-standard, and enjoyable. The guitar rhythm is interesting, as well--far removed from your typical I-V-IV deal.

Channelling the spirit of Mike "Guernica", gotta go...

I enjoyed your tune. The guitar has a nice warm sound to it. The mode of the tune is really cool. the harmonies are on it. The overall mix is nice.

here's another vote to turn up that banjo.. nice harmonies.. this mix is nice sounding because it's not harsh and squashed like some stuff I hear.. good tune and space.. 'Love and War' is still my favorite, and it should be on your page! :)

Did you use the DV300 on this?

Good one! The acoustic sounds very good......vocals are a little 'boxy' sounding...only a little. the vocals themselves are good............turn up the banjo..........nice harmonies.........could use some congas.................very cool tunage Stratoman!

Great music. Great vocals. Voice reminds me of someone but just can't put my finger on it.

Snare / tambo hit might be a bit loud, outside that I'd call it done.

Old style rock, gotta love it. Real nice tune.

nice!!! very hypnotic rythmn, easy to get into!! the vox are very "geddy leeish", sweet!! great harmonies!!! damn i like this!!

do ya'll play out anywhere?????? hook a brother up!!:D

Great vocal harmony!!!!!!!!!!You sond really comfortable with your voice. The mix is good except mabey the tambourine. The banjo kicks ass. This musta been fun to record.Makes me wanna go out and buy a banjo, a six shooter and a second hand canoe...hmmmmmmm,got the chillin' at the river bank vibe man,I just close my eyes and I'm in Maine on the Sandy or the Kennybunk River ,great flashbacks my brother, great tune...

this song comes from an era when the songs where good. Yeah...put me on the "gotta buy a banjo" list. When a song does that to me...it is a sign... good and bad ...bad because the wallet takes a beatin' ...good, because ...well because it is good.

very hypnotic

Well-you guys are too cool-thanks for such a positive resonse-since I'm at work all night-I'll just ramble to each of you personally...

Powderfinger-Thanks for your time and compliments-as far the "rough sketch" thing-this is a "one take" mix-I hear little things I would like different eg; tightening the vocal harmonies-maybe a little verb on the snare-so thats what i meant-I ran this through wavelab-it sounded alot duller before-I'll prob spend a few days making it sound worse some time soon....

dtb-thanks-thats a larrive acoustic (not mine) mic'ed with an oktava mc012-it sounds a little thin to me in person but it records very well i think...Yeah and this isnt a "rough draft" I spent alot of time on this-parts recorded as our "studio" moved 3 times over the last 2 years..this was just a one off rough mix I happened to have with me today....

ChrisH-lol you crack me up man-thanks for your time again-and yeah this mutha turned out pretty big-I'm sure alot of people will never make it to the end cause its a bitch to stream--I sorta "mastered" this here at work on headphones in wavelab-eq'd and multiband compressed-the original was a good bit duller-I think I just got lucky this time-glad it works for you---Thanks for listening-and your usual rapier wit...oh and the chimes are...chimes-copy and pasted to 3 dirffernt tracks panned left center and right-so they sorta go across the mix.

Cranky!-thats what I love about this place-we both have tunes up so different from each other-yet we can bypass musical labels and appreciate the music...So you want the banjo louder ehh? When I get around to mixing this for real-I'll try to automate it so its louder during the verse and lower during the chorus-thats what I had in mind but using cakewalk and automation in the same sentence makes me break out in hives....

Participant-Nice james kirk imitation there...Thanks alot for listening bro-I respect your opinion alot-you give alot of great advice around here. Glad you picked up that guitar rythym-its one of those deceptively simple kind of things-I actually borrowed it from some african music I heard-mixed it with the velvet undergrounds "venus in furs" groove-and added in a little yes "starship trooper" on the chorus. Forgive me for I have sinned...

Toki-thanks man-thats a larrive acoustic mic'ed with an oktava mc012-nice guitar wish it were mine :(-glad you liked it :)-I need to add a jaw harp to the mix and it will be just about there.thanks for listening.

BSABB-Thanks for your time and comments-Your very generous with your time all over this clinic-Glad you think the mix is working-I'm going to automate that banjo to be louder during the verses-and softer during the chorus's-it's just low on huge list--got about 6-7 newer ones to finish first...No we didn't use that vocal thing-we almost always record vox with an akgc4000-->blue tube-->mixer and add effects later-we plan on using that digitech thing for live performance(If we ever play...)-I'll put "Love and War" back up when I'm happy with it-which im not at the moment...

Lt.BoB--Thanks for listening man-I appreciate your time and ears greatly-good call on the boxey vocals-they were recorded in a living room-and the natural room verb was really making its way to the recording-not in a good way...I may have over compensated with the tape sim effect or eq-I'll look into that for sure-thanks!

Emeric-Glad you checked it out-Thanks for the kind words-you know I like your stuff alot...Your right about the snare and tambourine-the tambo is like the loudest thing in the mix it seems-and it doesnt always hit exactly where it needs to-maybe ill slap some verb on it...thanks for your time.

Fenderlikin-Thanks homeboy! Hypnotic--I like that-actually the groove is taken from "venus In Furs" by the velvet underground--but who's ever heard of them?Dude! We're trying to get a bass player and get our act together-we've tried out a few but nothing too promising yet...know any real good bass players willing to play this crap?....didn't think so...we may do a trio acoustic thing-in Monroe(of all places) If we do I'll let you know--thanks for listening.

JamalBucket-LOL NICE NAME!! j/k kidding man-congrats to you daddy-o--No I dont sing--The singer did a great job on this I think-I really liked his lyrics too. Shit man you do great work on your own-your a top notch drummer, guitar player and singer and songwriter...anyway thanks for the nice comments-looking forward to your version of "mary had a little lamb" soon...

Jake---Thanks man-I really liked that tune you posted a month or 2 ago-looking forward to something from you soon.

Wow, that was a mouthfull-I just burned 2 hours at work typing this...:p

ManOMan...this is a great tune. Loved it! The backing vox were spot on..very laid back tune man. The recording was nice also. Enjoyed it StratOmaster!

Hey Strat.......
......damn dude....... beautiful stuff. Very nice vocals and bg's. This is a very smooth recording. ......a very pleasurable and enjoyable listen. The bass is big and solidly appropriate. The guits and banjo sound cool.... and i like the panning. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this. Excellent job Strat, excellent!!!!

Joel

ok one last thank you bump---

W.I.S.C.---Thanks for the listen-I'm not the singer-but yeah I would say he is comfortable with his voice-we've been working together a long time-so our work method is established and we seem to both know when we're on the right track-your right about the tambo-too loud-it will be fixed next time around.

Mixmkr---wow a very nice compliment-the banjo is a fender-the cheapest one I could find-it was around $150 and I had to put it together-havent used it since this recording hehe but always good to have-btw thanks to you I realized I was previously mixing in mono!-its kind of a long story but you've been a big help trust me :) thanks alot!

David-thanks alot-I'm not the singer-but I sent him a link over here-I'm sure he'll be happy to read these nice compliments(as am I)

Guernica-Thanks bro-you're the official bass test-Im off to check out your new piano tune again after this...thanks for listening!

JCMM-thanks for the listen and compliments-It wasnt till I eq'd and multiband compressed this-that it sounded decent-it was pretty dull sounding before--and not too leave out my bandmates-this is a group effort-I couldn't do it without them!
