Mary Travers of the folk trio Peter, Paul, & Mary passed yesterday. While not a guitar player, nor possessing a unique-sounding voice, she did have what is now called "stage presence."
And how many of us over the age of 50 picked up our first guitar, in part due to the inspiration of her musical partners?

I ran sound for PP&M on one of their 70's tours when their regular sound man, "Chip" Monk, had to cancel. It's a tour I'll long remember. I'll miss Mary, and I know that Peter will really miss her. Noel will be glad her suffering is finally over.

Peter was with her during her final hours and he had this to say:

"She was in no pain and was able to understand and respond to spoken words even up to some time late in the afternoon, just a few hours before her passing."

My sympathy goes out to her family, and to Peter and Noel for the loss of their friend.

What a beautiful legacy she left behind. May she rest in peace.

When I was little they were still playing thier song on all the childrens shows and the radio.

I don't watch the news so I missed this announcement. Even Though I'm only in my late 30's they were one of my favorite folk groups next to The Mamas & Papas. It's sad to see a part of our musical history die.

believe it or not ... one of my greatest concert experiences was watching them at a hall in nashvegas... they only had to encourage peolpe to sing along once and you wouldn't believe the bgv's they got... lmao... hard tellin who all was in the audience that night... as close to a religeous experience i've ever had... they were video taping for pbs that night and you still see it ocasionaly... another void in the continuum...
