Rigid vs. Fluffy

Doesnt John Sayers always recommend "fluffy" in a sealed wall and "rigid/rockwool" for treatment?

Bite the bullet and make superchunk corner absorbers floor to ceiling at wall intercections and even wall/ceiling corners for bass traps.

Hello Hookie, sorry you can't access that site. Tons of info there. But I'll show you. Its simply layers of 4" 703 or Rockwool stacked from floor to ceiling in a corner. Here is the plan. The next pic shows how to cut it from 24"x48" panels of rigid fiberglass. Rockwool may be different. Anyway, it takes 24 pcs for standard ceiling heights. Thats 6 sheets per corner. Sounds like a lot, but it does the job. Other panels can be placed around the walls for broadband absorption. I would at least do 2 corners, but technically you could do along the floor, and or the wall/ceiling too. It would take a different mounting method for the wall/ceiling though. Anyway, I think you can figure it out from here. Hope this illustrates it.

Thanks Fitz. So this is pretty much like the typical 703 panels but with 3 sheets together forming a triangle in the corner with another triangle on top? I planned on doing something similar, more like the acoustic hangers on the side walls without the hanging panels. I'm going to check that site out this weekend for sure. I'm curious about the whole edge effect thing. I wonder if a plain fabric wrapped panel is secured to a wall or suspended from the ceiling so that the back is a few inches away from the wall would you maximize the panel's effectiveness by using all 6 sides.

I was just sitting here trying to decide if i should try to build some of my own absorbers out of r 25 and compress it into 2x4 frames using small wire mesh . Ive heard this works quite well and from the comparison sheet i think i'll try . then cover them with some cloth ect. make them look nice. What do you think?

That's what I've been doing, sort of. I've been using a 2x4 wood frame and using rigid wire and hooks to hold that fluffy crap in place. It's a pain in the ass to be honest. But it's cheap and it looks fine.

I think i might try that cuz after reading this thread You people got my mind scattered. I like the link for the rock wool bass traps . Thats a good idea
