And my answer to him is, no I can't believe you are such an asshole to sell 1/2" 456 for $100.00, nor can I believe there are still people so fucking stupid as to sell or buy sticky shed tape, and that's exactly what this is. :)

there are a few good reels with ampex branding, it depends on the location of manufacture, should be listed on the box, you are jumping to conclusions...$100 for NOS is high but not astronomic if it is indeed from the newer plant. also I am finding more and more that there are a lot of people out there who are simply less knowledgeable than yourself...

it has the box with the logo at the bottom, instead of at the side like the one you posted....I believe one of them is still good I just dont remember which right now, without consulting one of your previous threads where you explain it.

5 reels of new 456 1/2"...thinking about buying it but $125 is way too high for me... if it was 65 per I would pick it up without thinking twice.


I am thinking the guy bought this stuff years ago and never used it....its possible that some of the ampex is good if he bought it around the same time as the quantegy.....
 
This tape (the top of the thread) is most likely crap based on the labels. I've bought sticky tape for the reels/boxes, and priced it out accordingly. The last two are prob OK, but that's a insane high price, compared to a new reel of comparable RMGI.
 
I offered 10.00 for the reel at the top. I can always use a good reel and buy good tape. HEHEHE I'll let you know when it gets declined.

Correct... and you'll find all that info in my sticky (no pun) at the top of this forum. I’m where the info you’re talking about came from. If you see it on another forum they got it from this forum... from my posts over the years, or from someone that has read my posts and repeated it. This tape in question is one of those that will have Sticky-shed. You can tell by the box style, which I've explained a few times in different threads going back many years.

I'm familiar with this seller and I've sent him info about problem tapes, so I know that he knows.

And $100.00 for 1/2" 456 is absurd. $125.00 is criminal. I've sold three reels of new 1/2" Quantegy over the last couple months for $69.00 and free shipping. I don't care if I could get more for them. I'm not going to play that game. I had more than I needed and let them go for a fair price. Yes there are many people that just don't get it and won't get it or remember it no matter how many times and ways I say it... this is true. ;)

The tone of my original post was by design... so members here would take notice. My loyalty is to members here and anyone else that may find themselves on the wrong end of bad tape. I give sellers the benefit of the doubt right up until the moment they ignore the info I’ve given them and they let greed take over.

When we are able to be of one mind and boycott these sellers only then will we see the price of tape come down. The more you pay and the more desperate you are, the more you will pay and the more desperate you will become.
 
My offer of 10.00 was denied. I decided to message him and this is what I said, I see my generous offer of 10.00 was turned down. The reason my offer was low is because more then likely the tape is from the sticky shed years and is only good for the reel itself. Even if the item has been sealed. I doubt if he answers but if he does I'll let you know.

I got a response to my message. It was two short words in the subject line and I quote, FUCK OFF! Wasn't the response I thought I'd get but now we know how the man conducts business. I just might drop Junkbay a line and express my dissatisfaction at the way this lister answers his email. I can understand him being upset, but if he had any confidence in his product he would come back with some relevant information to back up why he is asking these outrages prices. I'll keep you updated.
 
yeah, one of his other auctions is a 10 pack of Maxell XL-II tapes for $90. This guy is a fucking 'tard.:mad:

He is threatening to have banned from Junkbay. OH NO, ANYTHING BUT THAT. WHAT WILL I EVER DO?!?! hare is the message he sent and my response. Enjoy.

Sounds fine to me! Had you replied the first time with the information you provided in this message the matter would have been closed. I encourage you to contact Ebay. If I'm banned, it's not a big loss. I'm sure they might look down on the your first response. Report me to your hearts content.
 
Yeah alot of douches on 'junkbay' as you say. Rude people everywhere. Fuck them all.
 
Yeah I have been encountering this as well...you explain that the tape will go sticky but they don't hear you. "It's fine"....and maybe it is, for now. Perhaps there are some studios that don't mind having a band come in, record for a week, send them off with the tape that will only be played one more time in the next 100 years, if that, and if it has to be baked at that point, then so be it. This is all a stretch, but might be happening.
 
Quick update, this auction has less then 2 day left and to my shock and surprise it hasn't sold yet. Also, his threats of getting Junkbay involved were just words with no meaning.
