Im thinking of buying a ribbon finally...I have my eye on 2...AT4080...and an AT4081.

What my question is, is that difference in design going to limit how I use it if I get the AT4081?...they dont normally show anyone singing using that sort of design...but if I use a pop screen I should get the exact same results if the insides are the same?

Well the 4080 has a lower range able to go down to 20 apposed to only 30 with th 4081 and AT states that the 4081 is an instrument mic but as we all know any mic can be used any where if it sounds good. and the 4080 is more for voice.
Hopes this helps ya darrin

If I found a singer that could sing down to 30 cycles...Id be a rich man...lol.

Ya it would bring the house down.
but if you were to use the mic other than vocals it might come in handy.

I think both of these are pretty good...I have a hard time placing trust in cheaper chinese ones...and the shures are starting at $500 more each...and AKG doesnt even have one to compete...Beyer Dynamic is still a trusted brand and that option is on the table too...but Id like one with additional gain with built in phantom powered preamp so there would be less noise.

I don't know darrin for my money if I had to choose I would go with the 4080 it cost a little more but it looks beefier and cooler. I just can't tell why the $250. price spread.
Now what has Oktavamod have to offer for a ribbon ?

darrin...just got my copy of prosound news in today they have a review on the 4080 and 4081 you might want to take a look.
best thing I read was the 5-year warranty....you can't beat that!

Yeah AT mics are solid...I wonder what the did tests on with them?

They don't say to bad.
What's the best price you've found for the 4080 now that my interest is sparked I may get one!

Yup I think there down in Connecticut I've dealt with them before when I use to do PA installs.
