You might want to post that in the mp3 mixing clinic.

Thanks....I'm new....don't really know the ins and outs of this board yet! Thanks for the help...

Thanks for the warm welcome, Dolemite. I really appreciate it. Seems like a friendly place.

Sheeezus -

The mixing Clinic, Darth, not the Mixing and Mastering Forum or the Recording Technique Forum...

Well, that's just not done here, some of the members get quite upset by cross-posting.

Not Dolemite though. He's just an ass.

Wawa, I'm not impressed with this BBS at all....people here aren't friendly at all.

As long as online discussion groups have existed, the groups have been slow to warm up to newbies. This isn't helped when the newbie makes common newbie mistakes such as posting in the wrong area or putting the same post in more than one area.

Plus there's the classic, guy you've never heard of before coming in and saying "You guys aren't all that. I'm not impressed with this board at all."

Just kidding.

Sort of. :)

If you want a mix reviewed, just post it in the right area. You'll soon discover that it's next to impossible to get a response unless you're a "name", but c'est la vie...

I agree with all you say, Eurythymic. I just think a newbie should get a nudge in the right direction, instead of a right to the jaw...

Unless of course, you put up a large banner on each page, stating loud and clear for all who enter:

"All persons posting comments in an inappropriate forum will be immediately condemned and belittled without further notice"

I dunno. I didn't think I was that mean.

Hey, let's face it. A little hazing is a tradition in online discussion groups. I've certainly been flamed for being a newbie a couple of times.

It isn't unusual for newbies to come in demanding respect, rather than commanding it. They get flamed. But once you earn respect, it doesn't go away.

For the record, I didn't mean you at all. You've been more than cordial.

I'm a newbie, and in my opinion, if you post it, and you can't except ANY kind of criticizm, then don't post. That is what this site is for, not to demand respect, but to earn it. You should already expect some type of harsh remark, not because you are a newbie, but because were human. This site is most respectful since, i've been on, no harm, no foul intended here. Just comments.

As for the song, i'm not a rock n roller, but i like the song, creates a movie type image, or a scene. Nice vocals, drums seem to far back and spread apart. the g-tars, turn down some, but cool song.

Welcome aboard, Wawazzat.

Don't worry. We're pretty tame here in the hazing department compared to your typical college fraternity, for instance. So we're not going to force you to lick out any ash trays or drink untill you puke or anything like that.

Keep in mind, though, that we are all basically a bunch of turds. :) :) :)

If some of us spent as much time at their tunes as we do on our post fests 2002 on this BBS, then maybe we would all get along better. Now wouldn't we?

:p

First, your song is very cool. Its got passion, emotion, good melody and thoughtful lyric. Sounds like you meant it, which means more than all the correct recording techniques and equipment in the world. Excellent work.

Mixwise, I'd only do a few things if it was in my hands. I'd find some way to pull the drums back a touch without losing the power, and I'd bring the voice a touch more up front, though I'm not sure what that would entail. Overall it is pretty balanced. To be square, I did not hear it on some good monitors, so my initial impression might change. Man, just keep doing it--your voice is great and your songwriting is happening.

Now, as for the people here, over time I think you'll find most to be supportive, sharing and encouraging. There will always be some that need to belittle others just to bolster their own egos. Grow a thicker skin and learn to see where the negativity is coming from. Believe me, no one is more sick of garbage responses than me. Anybody that acts like a know it all is dead already cause we never stop learning. Always consider the source.

Do learn the rules of the road and treat others like you wish to be treated--things will be cool. Anyway, great song. Thanks for sharing it.

That's the one thing that my mother always told me...I swear it. Thanks for the comments, crawdad. You rock my balls off.

I feel like an ass for a lot of the things that I've said here, but as you say, grow a thicker skin, which is what I've learned from this forum. I really think that you get where I'm coming from, and I really love that. Thank you.

Just droppin' in and came across your new mix DARTH...not bad. Just one word of constructive criticism; the drummer sounds like he's playing way to hard for the style that the guitar/vocals are conveying to my ears. The overall style of the song sounds a lot like a mellow pop/rock tune...while the drums sound like they would belong more in a Def Leopard song...real wide open and huge. That's the main thing that caught my ear as a little odd. Other than that it's pretty cool.

Hope I can share something new of mine soon...until then, good luck!
